Have you followed the advice given yesterday about looking at the Manx BMD site?

Flick

Flick Report 16 Dec 2011 15:01

Gins/Ginny

You can't change the name under which you post.................that remains constant, even if you change your name after you post a thread.

Your 'don't post twice' thread illustrates this...........

Showgirl......

You can't delete your thread by accident...........you get a message asking if you really wish to delete......so don't worry about that

Did you save all the info people found for you?

showgirl

showgirl Report 16 Dec 2011 14:22

hi Gins, no i dont know how to copy and paste. I am so scared of doing something wrong and deleting the whole information. I am an oap,but i am really into my ancestry.

Gee

Gee Report 15 Dec 2011 18:51

I wasnt having a go but just pointing out how you can avoid duplicating the info

Do you know how to copy and paste? If not just say and I'll send you the details of how to do it

showgirl Report 15 Dec 2011 18:47

Ginny. Thanks for answering. I have copied all your information in my notebooks,so i have not lost anything.I appreciate all the work that goes into helping me. I am only a beginner at ancestry and computers.

Gee

Gee Report 15 Dec 2011 18:31

For future

You can always change your board name by going to your account as you must have done now...you dont have to delete the thread

Or you could have copied the info that we found into a new thread, all the info posted on this thread was found before so its just wasting peoples time and discounting what others have found before

You may as well keep on with this thread now but you have marked it as answered?

showgirl

showgirl Report 15 Dec 2011 18:22

My other thread was deleted, because i had inadvertantly put my e-mail address as my boardname

My father`s grandmother was Wellmotte Coogan and she was born in Penzance Cornwall. My father`s maternal grandfather was a chemist in Preston, but in 1911i he was a pharmacuticle chemist in a hospital in Isle of Man and lived at 14,Queens Terrace Douglas Isle of Man. I think we are getting a bit nearer with your help thanks.

KempinaPartyhat Report 15 Dec 2011 18:02

I dont think it will show if he was a twin or not as you say the twin died and therefore may not be "openly" registered ...so you cant see it only his nearest next of kin can and if brothers and sisters are still alive you are not that

Thanks Alan.Did it state whether or not he was a twin?My Grandmother left Douglas after my grangfather went to Australia and came to live in Lancaster. I think they were divorced,as my grandad died in Melbourne Australia aged 64 in 1941.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Dec 2011 17:37

Do you know their parents names? Your father's MC would/ought to name his father.

May be it would be possible to find them either individually, or together on the 1911 census. Have you looked for WW1 records for their father? They, if survived, will often give more information.

You have given an IoM address - when was this used by the family?

Edit - 1911 as above!

So we have Cornwall, London and Scotland as possible places to search. As Penzance is quite close to the Channel and Scilly isles, may be some of the information (unseen) on your deleted thread could be pertinent?

Scotland BMD are to be found on Scotlandspeople.

Whats happened to your other Coogan thread it seems to have been deleted?

Didnt JerseyLily give you some BMD details too?
