I have since discovered that the relative who ran the Four Provinces, an Irish pub in Washington in the US (see my first post), was Kevin Finnie. After he sold the pub he returned to Ireland, and died between 5 and 10 years ago. His wife Peggy is believed to be still alive but I have been unable to track down where she lives. Some say she lives near Dún Laoghaire or Dún Laoire sometimes anglicised as "Dunleary" (a suburban seaside town in County Dublin, Ireland). Others say they are not sure. Kevin is also believed to have served in the British navy (Royal or Merchant?). |

I thought I had Joseph Finnie sorted last night - a Joseph Finnie appears on the Thiepval memorial in France, having died in 1916. And he was in an Irish regiment, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. But sadly he was born in Calton, Glasgow, Scotland, and not in Yorkshire. Oh well, back to the drawing board. :-( |

Well done Nick for sorting out the email. I will just copy out the information I was going to send you along with the reminder about using this board.( just in case anyone else might want to check with the Huddersfield Examiner) . Unfortunately it doesn't give any helpful progress., I didn't have time to look for his mothers |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am still slightly baffled by some of the abbreviations. What is a "PM"? How do I reply to/open it? I am still puzzled about how to remove my email address from an earlier post. My heart is willing but my technical mind is confused! |

Its not unusual to name two children the same It happened in my maternal grans family . two boys born four years apart both named James. one was James Herbert and the other James Joseph . Both survived in to adulthood and each was known by their second name. |
