when you sent for the marriage certificate did you put down the names of both bride & groom

sometimes it is better to just put the name of the one of whom you are certain of the name. If you even slightly mispell a name the GRO will say there is no match. As long as you include the GRO index reference you only need one name

Yes reckon you have cracked it. Booker June 1858. The birth certificate received is practically impossible to read so my translation of her maiden name could well have read Booker.
I will send for a further birth certificate of a later child born to the marriage which hopefully will be more eligable.

Could she have been married previously?

Marriage of John and Mary.

John Harper born 1824 Newport Shropshire -- Mary Booker 1833 Shropshire.
Their first child Jessie born November 1858 in Newport Shropshire. All later children born in Lancashire as believe they moved as Jessie their baby was only a few months old.
I thought it was a marriage listed in Wellington Shropshire Jan 1858 but not correct groom. Can anyone help with access to their b.m.d. records as really need this wedding certificate to prove their Fathers names.
