UNK usually means UNKNOWN

So Mary UNK probably means Mary [Dont -know- her -surname]

There are lots of Frederick Farr marriages - any idea when or where he married?

OK, Yvonne.

If Mavis is the person you're trying to find the info on, then her mother's maiden is on her birth index and I used that to find the marriage which is in my post on this thread, 28 Nov 2011 06:32. I found this through searching on http://www.freebmd.org.uk which you'll enjoy doing yourself. Mavis also had a sister whom you can find on the same website. Just put in the father's and mother's surnames in the search boxes and the two of them will come up.

Her father's birth is calculated guesswork. His birth index is for a child with the same name in the same registration district at about the right time. However it could easily be a relative so you would need his marriage certificate to find out the name of his father. Then the birth certificate to see if it is the same.

Carrying on with this guesswork, I went to the free search on the 1911 census to find him, http://www.1911census.co.uk/. I put in his name, date of birth, and registration district. I did not use Stockport as his place of birth as he may have been born in one of the smaller places around Stockport. When I found him, I went looking for his family by using the advanced search and typing in the surname and the place, then putting Arthur's name in other members of the household. Only those other three names came up so you can be pretty sure that's his family.

That's all you can do on the free section of the 1911. If you want to know where his parents were born, occupations, how long they've been married and how many children of the marriage, etc you will need to pay to view the image.

To go further back on earlier census you need to have a subscription to another website. I suggest you don't use the GR records as they are not as good, and very expensive.

I'm totally confused here, Yvonne.

Have you got a problem with the tree you have put on this website? If so you need to contact Genes direct. They don't read every single thread.

To contact Genes go to 'HELP' at the top of the page. 'Contact us' is in the left-hand column.
