Susan,
The information in the 12.12 posting was all from free bmd.

I discovered that the birth was registered late and before the marriage as well. My sister and I went to Lichfield for two days on Thursday and Friday just gone and picked up copies of Elsie's birth certificate and my grandparent's marriage certificate whilst we were there. We did some searching but it was difficult without more but had an enjoyable time still because we visited where we were born etc.

These look like Elsie's birth registrations - it appears that the birth was registered late and her birth (July-Sept qtr 1923) was before the marriage:

Births Sep 1923 (>99%)

Miller Elsie M Parker Lichfield 6B see J28
(this means that it was a late entry and that the birth actually registed in the June qtr of 1928)

Births Jun 1928 (>99%)

Miller Elsie M Parker Lichfield 6b 704

Do you have Elsie's birth cert?

Could be interesting!

The birth June 1904 looks promising looks like need to get a copy of that to check.

Where did you find that one?

Cannot find a Mercy Richardson birth, a Mercy Richardson living in Staffordshire in 1911, nor a Richardson to Mercy marriage in Staffordshire.

On the marriage certificate it doesn't say Rosina only Mary Ann Parker but on the gravestone it says Rosina, so where that came from I don't know.

Susan Report 13 Nov 2011 11:50

It says George's profession was labourer on farm. I wish to find information about George and his wife but until I get a copy of birth certificate for Mary I can't find out anymore because there are too many George's.

Do you know if she had always used her 3 names in that order, as not showing on the marriage?

Susan

Susan Report 13 Nov 2011 11:48

Point noted however you have the name as Miller Mary Ann but it should be Parker for the surname.

Never take dates on Death certificates as accurate. The info given could be from a friend/neighbour and they may take a guess at the age.

Tamhorn is in Staffordshire?

Added, for ref.

I wonder if some one could help me with a mystery?

I'm trying to find more details out about my grandmother. She was married on 28/11/1923 to Samuel Joseph Miller however, it says her age was 20 which means her DOB would be about 1903 but when her death was registered it has her DOB as 18/05/1900? Her father was listed as George Parker (deceased) on the marriage certificate and their witnesses were Mercy and Margaret Richardson. Her residence at time of marriage is down as Tamhorn. My mum thought her mother's maiden name was Richardson (however she advises they didn't really talk about these type of things in those days) because she seems to remember her mum and dad lived with Grandad Richardson (as she knew him) initially.
They did move to Watling St, Wall and grandma had 5 children who were Elsie, Joan, Frederick, Mary and Edwin. My mum however lived with Grandma Venables (how she knew her) with her granddaughter Maureen (who was similar age to mum) in a cafe a couple of doors up from her mum from about the age of 4/5.

If anyone can help with any information I would be really appreciative. :-S
