Once again thank you to all the help :-)
With the information I have been kindly helped with, it is apparent that my ancestors on my fathers side 'McQueeney/McQueeny come from Ireland. As I am new to all of this, I would be most appreciative of any advice concerning the research of Irish ancestors.
I have found that my gggg paternal grandfather, Bernard McQueeny came from Ireland - Leitrim, and need advice on how to research further back into my ancestors on this side.

Thank You
Kind regards
Steve McQueeney

If they are related to the people on here - please do not start another thread BUT, there are a few VERY good researches on here who can help you with Irish info!!

Just edit your heading to include something like 'Irish help please' and add your specific request in a post so that they will see it.

That way, they have all the other info together to see also - this will help them.

Good luck to you,
Regards,

Dea Xxx

Hi Penny, Astra, Dea and Ginny,
I'm just want to thank you all very much for your help with regards to the McQueeney name. All of your findings have been most helpful, hopefully enabling me to go further back in my ancestry.
Any advise on how I can gain information on how to research ancestors that lived in Ireland would also be gratefully appreciated.

Kind Regards
Steve McQueeney :-)

I think that as Bernard's father was a Tailor, it is very probable that Bernard followed him in his trade and was a Tailor before he joined the Royal Marines?

I can't see him on 1841 to confirm this though - perhaps he was stil in Ireland then.

Bernard died in 1867 which could be the reason that he was unsure of his father's occupation

I was puzzled by the father's occupation on the 1861 posted above by Astra - it states 'Marine', so I went back to check the marriage cert in case the 'Tailor' on there should have been 'Sailor', BUT it definitely says 'Tailor' !
