Hi there, could someone please look up my relation Grace Bage in 1901 and 1911. She married Alfred Bage in 1895 and I suspect he died in 1907.

Grace was born c. 1857 (place unknown).

Thank you!

Peter

Peter Report 13 Nov 2011 20:20

Thank you everyone for this help, and Sylvia thank you! Much appreciated.

Alfred Bage and Annie Featherstone first married in 1871 in Newcastle (I suspect an elopement). They had three children and by 1881, these three children had been farmed out to maternal relatives (and a neighbour of their grandparents). In 1881 Annie is working as a domestice servent in Stockton-on-Tees (and you have found who I suspect to be Alfred in the 1881 and 1891).

In 1885 Annie had an illegitimate son, George, in Norton, near Stockton. Her husband to be, Nathaniel Wood had moved to Stockton c. 1879 with his family. The couple married in Middlesbrough in 1888, Annie stating she was a widow. In 1889, their son Henry and George were both baptised under Nathaniel's double barrelled name of Langburn Wood.

So, without a death record for Alfred prior to 1888, I suspect both Annie and Alfred became bigamists.

RE the 1871 marriage to Annie Featherstone and the 1895 marriage to Grace Crosland.

Ages are roughly correct in both for Alfred Bage as are his father's name of Joseph. However, I do know Alfred's father Joseph, died in Stockton Workhouse. He was a joiner. Not an architect as is mentioned on the 1895 marriage. Also, the signatures are very different on the 1871 marriage and the 1895 ... did Alfred reinvent himself, or am I jumping to conclusions of bigamy?!

Opinions are much appreciated!

Thank you again to everyone who has given information here.
