I have had a hell of a job trying to find birth records for my mother, Jaqueline Anne Haynes born 23 Oct 1941 then I discovered that they have miss printed her mothers maiden name as Marrington when it is in fact Harrington, is there any way this can be corrected.
I have found all her brothers and sisters apart from her twin sister and also a brother who wasn't registered although he lived well into his 70's

If it was on Freebmd then you can contact them and they will (eventually) correct it. However, if it said Marrington on the actual register then this cannot be changed.

Where did you find the record ? On Ancestry you can do corrections,

Is it correct on the actual birth certificate if not then it cant be altered now

Do you mean correction on Freebmd? It's a bit of a fiddle but it can be done.
Click on the little specs, then you click on the bit that says 'If you have a correction to this entry, please click here'.
Be sure to skim through the whole page, there is a box to tick at the end of one of the lines, about hallfway down. It won't accept if you don't do this.

Shirley, how do you correct MMN on Ancestry? I have only ever seen person's surname come up.

If unable to change as register says marrington, just add a postem.

looks like its just a transcription error as the page type is very blurred. You can click add alternative information and the do the correction which will take time to show on the record. This is on the Ancestry record

I think you 'are' being a numpty Jan - I am sure you can put a correction on anything on Ancestry, though it is rather fiddly and takes a long time to be added.

brummiejan You click on add alternative info ,then reason and click maiden name then put the explanation in the reason or source of your update,I think it shows eventually as a black pen thingy by the side of the name which peeps can click on to see the info

Its very blurred on the actual typed GRO page so is a transcription error on Ancestry, If you would like me to add the right surname I will do so . :-D

As you will see from the reference I have given above, it is registered in the March quarter of 1942!

Are you just searching on 1941??

If she was born Oct 1941 she should be in the Dec qtr however looks like it was a late registration and they were reg possibly Jan1942 so come under the Mar qrtr 1942

You say Victor lived into his 70, so have you located his death record?

They only go up to 2006 on Ancestry
