Thanks Patchem for your comment about the missing wedding. I'm working on that one.

We are still missing a wedding, then, even though you have marked as answered?

Yes that's him, I think that he died there in 1884.

Thanks everyone, the 1841 census that shows Rebecca Hiscock as a 19 year old, living in Dudley Port, has to be who I am looking for.

it's possible as I know that at 1861 census, he was shown as nephew at the house of William and Mary Bennett.I also know that in both 1871 & 1881 census he was an inmate at a Workhouse,

Thomas appeared to disappear from census records in the Dudley area and with it being a common name, he may have moved elsewhere in the country. I still have to research this!

patchem

patchem Report 30 Oct 2011 09:55

So has Thomas died by 1851, or have you found him elsewhere in the census?
Thanks

Apolgies to all, I named her as Hoskings in title. Don't know why I did that, the surname is HISCOCKS

Shrimp

Shrimp Report 30 Oct 2011 09:34

Birth certificate is definately Hiscocks.

Astra

Astra Report 30 Oct 2011 09:32

Is it Hiscocks or Hoskings?

I have purchased a copy of the birth certificate for Benjamin Bennett (27 April 1846-Dudley Port) that shows the father as Thomas Bennett and the mother as Rebecca Bennett formerly Hiscocks. I am okay with Thomas as the father but I have hit a brick wall with Rebecca Hiscocks as she or the surname Hiscocks doesn't mean anything to me.I've done the usual checks on GR and other sites without any luck to try and identify who she was. I'm thinking that there may have been some mis truths when registering Benjamins birth. Any thoughts?
