Whose birth certificate?

No-one born before July 1837 - when the GRO came into being -can possibly have a birth cert..............and until 1875, there were no penalties for not registering births........therefore, many were simply not registered

hi all,

thanks for the responses, the john bollans i'm refering to is found in the 1851 census living with his son - charles bollans it shows them both living together with charles children

charles was born in 1820 and married a ruth duffin.

the john bollands/bollans born in 1811 may be a relation but its not the john im searching for and to date i cant find anything to link the 2.

cynthia- thanks for the tip, i've searched on all variations i can think of, bollans/bollens/bollands/bolan etc but nothings come up to date.

i'll share my tree with you all so you can see details. most of these are actually from our family bible started by charles bollands -born 1858.

may need a trip to leicester to find his birth certificate!

hi all,

i've traced my tree back to a john bollans born in wymondham leicestershire and by the dates on the census info was born in 1781/1782. there is another john bollans born in 1811 which could be a relation but havent found any link.

the name is sometime spelt bollans/bollands/bollens.

if all else fails i'll be heading to the leicester archive office to search.

does anyone have any other info they could share or suggestions as to where i may look.
