There is another man with the same profession on the preceding page. It looks to begin with 'F' as there is a 'Finisher' also there.

Well 1851 he is a hand loom weaver and the baptism for his son in 1838 says Clothier, but goodness knows what the 1841 says.....

the thing is I am trying to decide if William and Abraham Haigh who are in the house are the children of Mary perhaps from a previous marriage or as a single woman.I know it says she is 20 but with ages rounded down she could be 24.

Haighs in Huddersfield are like Evans or Jones in Wales!

patchem

patchem Report 12 Oct 2011 20:31

There are more Haighs on the same page, ages from 21 to 2, so if you want to guess, she could be Haigh before marriage.

I go to sleep and wake up to find my puzzle solved , I hope. I had seen some of those entries and was trying to make the connections.

I was looking for the father of William Haigh born 1838, on his marriage cert (to Emma Haigh !! ) his father was George Haigh Spinner. William himself was a Shoemaker and the earliest I had found him was 1851 as an Apprentice Shoemaker to Adam Kershaw.

Thankyou all for helping me clarify my thoughts

Need more help please before I despair.

Following on from above info;

Births of children I believe are correct so please don't look for any of these
Tom Haigh died in 1836.
Abraham Haigh b 1835 marries Mary Ann Topham in 1857
William Haigh : I have all his info from birth to marr to death

But what happened to Mary Ann (Cheetham) and her 2nd husband Thomas Spence who appears to disappear after 1841. On the marr cert Thomas age is given as 34 which makes him born c 1806

I thought I had a breakthrough when I found a birth for Richard Cheetham Spence in 1842.

I have found 1 Richard Spence born 1844 Huddersfield but I am not sure if it is the right one.

I am really looking for Mary Ann Spence as she is the direct ancestor

Thank you Jennifer

patchem Report 16 Oct 2011 18:25

Have you found Abraham Haigh in 1851 census (to rule out looking for Thomas and Mary Ann with him)?
Thanks

Added:
The Richard 1844 in 1851 has Margaret and Thomas as parents, Thomas born Scotland.
Have you applied for Richard Cheetham Spence's birth certificate, however he does not appear to show in any other free bmd records.

RutlandBelle

RutlandBelle Report 16 Oct 2011 19:13

Patchem, yes I have Abraham thanks. To be honest it is really Mary Ann I am looking for, I don't know if the Richard Cheetham Spence is her child but it seemed possible seeing as her father was Richard Cheetham.

I just thought if i could find him he may be with his mother. I have seen that 1851 and have not yet decided if it is the same Thomas Spence with another woman! Though on the 1841 it does say he was born in county and not Scotland.

Have to sign off for this evening as cooking calls.

Thanks Jennifer

Janet

Janet Report 19 Oct 2011 15:02

Sorry to disagree but I think it looks like Thomas Spence with Maryann not Margaret living at West Parade in Huddersfield on the 1851 census.-jl

Janet thankyou, I think you are right. I have been going round in circles looking for this family.

I'd give you my last Rollo, Jennifer

PS. I see you are researching Haighs as well.
