Baptism Question Please

My grandmother was one of 8 children,7 of them were registered as they are on Freebmd.
The last one,who I am told died very young, doesn't seem to have been registered and there is no death either.
BUT...there is a baptism for her.
Anna Eleanor Graves born 28/6/1876 was baptised at St Thomas Charterhouse, Islington,22/7/1876
This is the right girl, the parents and father's occupation are right.
Anna is not on the 1881 census,so must have been dead by then.
I always thought that if a baby drew a breath after birth it was a 'live'birth and should have been registered and this one appears to have been alive for at least a month.
But,why no death either?
Any ideas appreciated

Hmm. I also can only find the baptism on 22 Jul 1876.

Are you sure she passed away and just wasn't present on the night of the CENSUS?

Jax
I saw that one and wondered???
Danny
I really don't know.
My grandmother said she had died as a child, but that's all.
I can't see her anywhere at all on the 1881 and she isn't on the 1891 either.
It is odd
Thank you both

Thank you,but not her.
Their living daughter Annie was born in 1883 so doubtful they would have had 2 with the same name??
Although of their 7 daughters 4 of them had Ann included in their names!!
Astra
That is also a possible
Thank you.

In answer to a couple of your questions...

"Their living daughter Annie was born in 1883 so doubtful they would have had 2 with the same name??"

It is possible that the second Annie was named after her deceased sister...Happened alot in my family.

"That is a possible.. but could they change the name?"

A child who was registered with one name could be baptised with another (parents changed their minds or Grandma insisted :-D ) and in that case whoever baptised the child was supposed to notify the registrar but of course that didn't always happen. The parents could also notify the registrar and have an amendment made to the birth cerificate..... But I wonder how many actually did.

What couldn't, or wasn't supposed, to happen was a child being baptised with one name and then registered after with another.... But then again who would know, especially in a busy city district.

Chris
Thank you for your addition..
It did sort of happen in this family..my nan,the youngest ,was intended to be Jessica, but an old great aunt insisted she was named after her,Charlotte,so she was registered as Charlotte but always known as Jess.
So I guess it is possible that they tried to keep the name Ann/Annie going too
