I have read your posts. I am interested, as Henry Adolphus Dore would have been my great great uncle. I am directly descended from both John and Mary Spry and their daugher Mary Dore. You will not be able to find any documents abt this family in the 1860's. All information would be from their direct family. How are you related to the Spry's? and how is your son related to this Dore family?? I must contact Canada about this!

Ooh - thank you for the extra bits on the Canadian connection. I am going to copy and paste this thread somewhere safe so I can carry on digging a bit.

I'm not directly descended from the Dore family but from the Spry side (at least my son is a direct descendant). I had a lead from an Ancestry tree that Mary Spry was tried for murder back in 1848. Have done a fair bit of reading around that one. She was tried along with her daughter Mary Dore. They were acquitted but it's given me a bit more info that I would normally have found.

And it all started with me trying to find Mary's husband - John Spry - and I still haven't but that's another problem for another day, at the moment I'm pootling about looking for the Dore family to see what happened to them all after the trial. Fascinating stuff.

Many thanks all

Jill

1871 .... and Frederick Charles has a brother also called Henry Adolphus so they must be closely related. Mary Spry was Mary Ann Dore's mother.

Edit****

Henry Adolphus 1879 is the son of Henry Adolphus 1854/55 (re 1901 when Henry snr is a widow) so Fred Charles as mentioned in newspaper was his uncle and Florence and Elizabeth his cousins......I think!

I thought that maybe Frederick Charles 1857 may have been in Canada as well re the newspaper cutting for Florence and Elizabeth but now I think he died in 1893 in Wandsworth district which fits in with his address in 1891

This is from Andrews Newspaper Index Cards (on Ancestry) and is an actual scan of a piece from a newspaper but it won't let me copy and paste it but this is exactly what it says

Henry Adolphus Dore (Hand Written)

Dore, next of kin of Henry Adolphus Dore, born 1879 at 7 Little Eyebury Street, Pimlico can communicate with the .......................Company Regina Canada to advantage.

15/07/1951 (Hand Written)

Unfortunately the handwritten date 08/07/1951 is written over some words where I have left a blank.

Ancestry index says Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

I looked on the London Gazette sight but couldn't find anything.

Hello All

Could a kind and helpful member please see if they can spot Henry Adolphus Dore emigrating to Canada? Would have been some time after 1905 (when he married - to either Lilian Saunders or Jane Taylor) and possibly before 1911 as I cannot spot him on the 1911 census. I don't think he returned to England but not 100% certain.

It may have been after 1911 of course as he quite possibly is somewhere on the 1911 census mistranscribed. But, as yet, no sign of him.

He was born in 1879 in Pimlico.

Many thanks

Jill
