Margaret Mary Walsh was born in City of Cork 1889 and married my grandfather in Wales in 1910. I have found them there in the 1911 cencus. I hoped to find evidence of her in the Passenger Lists of sailings from Cork around 1908 but every entry I have seen so far has an American destination. Thousands of people travelled from Cork to Swansea in the early 1900s but where is the evidence to be found in Passenger Lists? I would appreciate any help on this |

welcome to the boards - it is highly unlikely there would be any records for such a crossing - usually it is only the longer sea crossings for which there are records - e.g. USA, Canada and Australia - never seen one from Ireland to the UK mainland |

Ireland was part of the UK back then so there were no shipping records |

Thank you for your reply, Ann and Ginny. Ann, I hoped that there might be details on the record of an address for my grandmother in Cork. I have looked for her on the 1901 cencus there but as I do not know her parent's names it is difficult. On the 1911 cencus for Wales she is in Methyr Tydfil with her husband, my grandfather, and her 16 year old brother, Michael. I wondered if they had travelled across together. I am trying to find any fact that will place her in Cork. I know she only made the crossing once as she never went back to Cork. |

If you obtain your grandparents' marriage certificate, then you will know the name of her father and from that will be able to search for her in the 1901 Irish census :-) |

Irish certs have both parents and the witnesses/referees |

Ginny, on the marriage certificates for my ancestors, the fathers' names are given, plus witnesses. |

I have found a record of John Daniel Jones marrying in Swansea, 1910. It seems that this is likely he so I will purchase a copy. On the record entry it states 'spouse's surname only available after 1912'. It will certainly be there on the certificate? |

Forgot to mention that a search on the Swansea records for 1910 fails to find Margaret Mary Walsh. |

Found one! Margaret Walsh- 1910, same quarter Apr-May-Jun but a different page in the record; 1497, to John Daniel's 1429. Does this have any significance? |

Just checking I am looking at the right family - in 1911 they are at 87 Mount Pleasant, Merthyr Vale, Glamorganshire, they have a six-month-old son and your grandmother's first name is Madge? |

Could someone else check the image for this family in 1901 Margaret is down as adopted |

I shall look, Roy, but the wife and brother-in-law Michael in 1911 are both under "where born" "City of Cork Resident". |

This looks like the marriage based on the forename Madge |

There are times when I am so glad that currently we subscribe to both find my past and to ancestry :) (the surname Farnssey I could not find in FMP). |

Not sure if the Ireland is a mistake as the above Mary ann Farnssey on the 1901 is down as born Abersychan Monmouthshire, Wales |
