Does anyone have access to Australian 1901 census returns?

I have found a John Martin in the death notices in the Sydney Morning Herald published 9/12/1901 he died age 71 at his son's residence 5/12/1901.
His wife died 3/11/1900 also at her home address on Darling Street

The address looks like 553/6/8 Darling Street Balmain Rosella NSW.
Now he had 2 sons that it could be,John Thomas Martin born Durham England 1862 or Isaac born Durham 1858.

I don't know if or when either of these emigrated as I don't have research facilities.

Thankyou Maryb.

Yes thats the one,he married in 1878 and is on 1881 census in keighley West yorks.
Then no sign of him.

There maybe a death in Ryde NSW in 1923 with same parents.

Hannah his mum died Keighley and his dad went to Aus 1883 and remarried.

Thankyou Maryb.

Thankyou Netty,I have got them.

Don't the census returns give occupations and name of others in household.

I'm sure its the same Isaac that I'm looking for.

He had a child 1887 then no sign, although his wife Anne/Annie remained here,as widowed 1891 census but still married on 1901/1911 census.
So if he married there it might have been illegal.

Sorry Mary, only information given is what you can see on image.

Edit: The John Martin, 32 MacKenzie St can't be your John as he appears on Sands Directory in 1912 at same address.

Thankyou Netty.

What you have sent is great and I have forwarded it to a close relation of his.

He was also Great Grandad to my sons partner.

That looks like John then,so it can't be him in 1912.

So it looks as though there was an inquest into John Thomas's death!!

No you have been a great help Netty.

I have been able to view the Sydney Morning Herald online.
It gives funeral arangements for dad John Martin died Dec 5th 1901.

It says the funeral will leave the home of Mr + Mrs Isaac Martin 553 darling Street.
Also mentions other son John Thomas and wife.

1903 John Thomas Martin taken to hospital with iodine poisoning in a serious condition.
Miner offences for Isaac Martin of Balmain ie drunk in charge of horse and cart on New Years Eve 1901.
Also he may have been the victim of a shooting in 1914.

He seems to have had a colourful life to say the least.
If he did leave wife Annie home alone in England I think she had a lucky escape!!
