Don't give up looking for him. I looked for my Amy Wassall for such a long time. Eventually I found her with her family sometime after the 1891 was released. It was the 'find' that allowed me to work out the family details and why I couldn't find her birth reg under Wassall. I had her marriage cert and her death cert, her signature on her brother's marriage cert and on my maternal grandmother's marriage too. I'll never know why my mother or aunt had never heard of her but presumably some rift. My sanity was tested because I knew she existed but I couldn't find her anywhere.

I'm sure that somewhere out there we can find something about him that will point us in the right direction.

Sorry Jillian, only just realised you had posted again. I'll keep looking for as long as it takes, he must be out there somewhere. I did watch 'who do you think you are' with Alan Carr last night, his relative was a deserter, I'm wondering if this could also be the case and he changed his name as he would have been old enough (just, i think).
