Hello there

I was just wondering whether anyone would be able to help in connection with Judge family from Dublin, Glasnevin area in 1901 Census and Rathmines in 1911. I have gone only as far back as my great grandparents John J and Catherine M who had fourteen children as this is the only Census information available. I would like to go back a little further if possible. I hope to get over to Dublin to start investigating because with so many children, although Ibelieve that some died in childhood) there must be someone equally keen to find out more, for example, Catherine's maiden name. The difficulties lie to some extent because they used alternative names, Catherine was Kate in 1901 Census, her age changed also (!). Hoping someone out there is related to the family and could help. I also believe that one or two of the children went to USA, one had something to do wth Sierra Leone. If anyone has any information it would be much aprpeciated.

Hi Cathy and welcome to the boards.

The best way to find out if you have any connections on here is to put the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above (in the dark green bar), to see if anyone else has them in their tree.

If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner.

Regards. Cx.

Many thanks Ann and Cynthia, I will get the hang of this eventually!

I do not have all of the information with me at work, I will put some more info on later on this evening. The Judge family were living in Botanic Gardens Glasnevin in 1901 Census and Grove Park Rathmines in 1911 Census if that is any help. Louis Judge (my grandfather is listed also as Louie (electoral role) and Lewis (ship records) which doesn't help!!!

I very much appreciate your help, I am sure there must be someone out there researching this large family!!

possibiliy that Catherine Judge's maiden name was Comerford. I only have that from a record of Baptism I found of John Patrick Judge in 1897 with parents John Joseph and Catherine, dates are about right, but there are so many so cannot be sure.

thanks everyone

Ginny, I think catherine comerford dob 1850 is a bit early for my great grandmother but possibly related nevertheless so definitely worth knowingand I really appreciate your help. My Catherine was probably born about 1869 but I am hoping to go back further. Erin I can't believe you found the marriage record, I have looked and looked, my problem is I have lots and lots of bits of info and possibilities but no one to help tie things up I am really appreciative of your help. I will have a look at the comerford family website and see what happens thanbks everyone :) :-)

I have just been on Comerford blog and the family is church of ireland, I have been there before but as my catherine was RC thought it unlikely there was any relation, I am not sure of catherine's maiden name, just thought possible because of birth record I found.

Eringobragh1916 Report 3 Sep 2011 17:35

Cathy....They were... but if you follow the whole thing through you will find there were also RC branch..I was a bit confused to say the least and it seems to go on forever....!!

Problem as you will know is when you try to search for the Judge surname... what you get is...every "Judge"../Judgement on the Island of Ireland but given that there does not appear to be a Kate Comerford/Judge connection from the COI branch I would suggest the one you have located for the Birth and the above marriage is worth persuing.

Yes, there are a lot of Judges there and noted particularly Edward and Susan, I am trying to obtain ship's crew records for Edward from 1921 which should show if he was married and his wife's name. Also Peter Christopher and Eileen, possibly my Peter, Louisa and William but I don't know who lived where, I know that Rathmines was pretty much the area my grandarents remained in until my grandmother died in 1953, my mum and grandad came to England then, Brendan was already in England, these are the only two that came to England.

The above may be a lie! I only know of Brendan and Louis for sure living in the UK however I have a vague recollection of when I was a child/teenager visiting a relative called Jackie (Judge) a male cousin mum said in Northampton, must have been back in the 1970s, I have no idea who his parents were or where he fits in.
