Been checking all your info, thank you very much. I know all the birth and marriages dates etc in UK, and have already got quite a bit on the Canadian movements. Haven't got onto the collections canada site yet, but certainly need to find Eustace who married Jessica, their 2 children. Am working backwards on the family! Must find Jessica Augusta Parker's birth which I think is ca 1885
Bertram Theodore Tassell married in Brighton in 1916 to Ethel Jean Harmer, but he died in the World War in 1917 and is buried in Boothan Cemetery, Heninel, Holland.
Reg married R. Louise Marie Lazenby and they married in UK. Reg went to Canada in 1906 and was on the Canadian Census in that year, he then came home and married in Hailsham, Sussex in 1908 and returned to Canada . I have them on the Canadian 1911 census.
Archibald Tassell, yes I have him as a boarder in London in 1901 I did not have his Canadian Passenger Lists details, thank you
Edith May Tassell b 1877 Headcorn. I have her on 1881, 91 and 01 census. She married ?? Earnest Robinson, or might be Arthur - I am lost on this one.
Ethel Augusta Tassell I have on the 1881 and 91 UK census and then on the 1913 Canadian Passenger lists, must find her elsewhere on the census
Florence Julia Tassell - I also have a note in my Info boxes, were they Twins - Answer I don't know! I have her in Canada in 1906 Census
Clara Louise A Tassell - I have her as going out to Canada in 1913.
Thank you very much indeed for your help Jo

Jo - re your list of kids in Canada
Exact Search Results - Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 A I Tassell abt 1879 9 Sep 1902 Tunisian Montreal, Quebec Liverpool, England Bertram T Tassell abt 1883 24 May 1907 Teutonic New York, New York Liverpool, England [Although A.I. does look more like an I than a J, he is a clerk born in Kent - born in Kent - well could have guessed that as his name is Tassell]
Archie definitely was here for quite a while - Bert went back in July 1907, I think.
From the census indexes page: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.009-e.html take the AG link - the year switch is at top right. (Incidentally, I had no 1901 hits) In 1906, Tassel is clearly a typo - the name's down once, but his sibs are transcribed as Tassell. [NB the split view link gets you a saveable image] In 1911, Reg is Tassel, Arch is A M Tassell, Ethel's OK.
For 1916 without an Ancestry sub, right now it's a mess of clicking. Maybe the images will be linked nicely later this summer, but for now we need the LAC geographic search for district=win* From the list of hits, we want subdistrict 3, then image 17 (of 62) - note Louisa's at 160 Edmonton. From the list of hits, we want subdistrict 20, then image 16 (of 32) - note Archie's at Camp Hughes.
I'm a bit surprised Camp Hughes is still in Winnipeg South - it's 75% of way to Brandon. http://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/hrb/prov/p082.html
Nominal census dates were 24/6/06, 1/6/11, 1/6/16, so Archie would ship out within the month. Note Lou's addy matches Archie's 1915 attestation. Edmonton is pretty much downtown - it's a cross street to Portage, just 7 blocks W of Portage & Main.

The most useful link is the LAC portal: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html
You can drill down there to BMDs in MB and BC, soldiers of WW1, and census indexes.
In MB BMDs, you'll see Eustace wed Jessica, and Reg had a couple of kids (one died as a child).(Remember to click on details). In BC BMDs, you'll see the deaths of Jessica and of Reg. http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-C1C207/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths
One graves site that gets a hit is: http://bccfa.islandnet.com//homepage.html Also Archie is on a troop ship to Halifax in 1919, so both bros survived WW1.
At LAC's cef database, you can click on both sides of the image of their attestation papers. If you use the Search help link there, you'll see that both have 101st battalion #s. However, the 101st was used as a reinforcing bn, so you'll need to buy their service records to see which front-line bn they actually served in. Search help tells you how to do this, and also gives a link to that unit's War Diaries. http://cefresearch.com/matrix/Utilities/reserves/17th.htm
Most of the family's BMDs were in Hollingbourn RD (Edith is Tassele), but not all:
Marriages Sep 1872 (>99%) Horrod Kezia Eastry 2a 1240 Hurst Charles William Eastry 2a 1240 TASSELL John Eastry 2a 1240 YOUNG Louisa Anne Eastry 2a 1240
Births Sep 1873 (>99%) Tassell Clara Louise A Tunbridge 2a 557
Births Mar 1891 (>99%) Tassell Dorothea Winifred M Hailsham 2b 94 Deaths Mar 1891 (>99%) Tassell Dorothy Winifred M 0 Hailsham 2b 72a
Births Mar 1892 (>99%) Tassell Evelyn Wilfred Hailsham 2b 97
Deaths Jun 1906 (>99%) TASSELL John 54 Hailsham 2b 57
Marriages Mar 1908 (>99%) LAZENBY Louise Marie Hailsham 2b 165 TASSELL Reginald Arthur Hailsham 2b 165
Obviously, Dot's a guess. Also was Flo a twin?
Births Dec 1874 (>99%) TASSELL Florence Julia Hollingbourn 2a 641 TASSELL Mary Ann Hollingbourn 2a 641
Before I realized passenger records were free this week, I tried to find all the 9 kids in 1901. (For 1871-1901, the Canad1an nominal census date was within 1 day of the UK census date.) Four are with mum & dad [rg13/890/60/9]. Bert Tatsell (sic) seems to be double counted as he's also visiting the Stewarts with Eustace [rg13/933/92/35]. Archie's a boarder in London [rg13/497/53/40] I don't see Reg, Flo, nor Ethel. Now I've found these 3 on various post-1901 Canadian censuses, and they never say they came over 1901 or earlier.
I never see Evelyn nor Edith in Canada - Evelyn's with Bert in Cuckfield RD 1911.

Hello Ginny, Maureen in NY Sorry just been out of contact for 2 days. To clear the family up. John Tassell married Louisa Anne Young. John died in 1906 and because many of their children had gone to Canada, Louisa follow them. In Canada, Children in Canada should be Clara Louisa Tassell, who I was trying to find the death notice. Florence Julia Tassell, Ethel Augusta Tassell, Reginald Arthur Tassell and Eustac Stanley Claude Tassell I have most of their UK and Canadian details, but thank you Ginny for the 1916 one, which I had not caught up with
Hope Maureen you have survived 'Hurricane Irene' and all is OK
Thank you both very much for your help Regards Jo

The newspaper you refer to is not an obit, its just notice of her funeral. I cant email or post it as the document is a scanned pdf
There are other newpapers worth looking at when you get access. NY has a couple of postings regarding other peoples wills of which Clara is mentioned

Hello Ginny
Many thanks for the details you sent me. Clara lived in Sussex, UK and when her husband died, she went to Canada to join some of her children. She died there. What I could see from the Winnipeg Free Press is that she died on the 24th December - OK so only a couple of days
I see on the 29th Aug, I have Worldwide access to Ancestry, for 6 days, so will get the Obit then. Thank you very much for your help Jo

I have UK membership to Ancestry and have been looking in the Canadian Newspapers on Ancestry. Winnipeg Free Press, there is an obit to C. L. A. TASSELL who died 28 Dec 1948. Also below I see a few deaths in the local papers.
Can anyone send me a copy of this obit in the Winnipeg Free Press, plus one of the death notices in the various papers.
Do hope someone can help me Regards Jo
