Find Ancestors

Hi I am looking for my Traveller Roots My ancesters are Charlotte light and Frederick Allum They were both born in the 1880s Charlotte was 18 when she got married in 1901 and lived in Hastings. She was born in kent, her parents were Mary and James Light. I can not find her in the 1891 census or a birth for her.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you Mark. That is my tree on ancestry, it is my mother in-laws account. I am stuck at Charlotte Light birth and can not find anything concrete on Mary as I can not get Charlottes Birth cert.

Have you searched trees at the top of this page to see if anybody else on this site is researching the same family as yourself

Where are Charlotte and Fred in 1911???

Have you tried for a birth cert for Ellen or young Mary? I wouldn't be surprised if Charlotte was born in another marriage or pre-marriage.

I can not find them in 1911 either. I have Charlottes marriage cert and it says she was living at 21 Rock-a-Nore road Hastings. James died prior to the marriage in 1901 so will not be able to find him but found charlotte living with her mum in hastings.

Frederick aged 9 in 1911 is my great grandfather it is his parents i am looking for and I have the 1901 census it is the same year she was married to Frederick Allum thanx Ann. Her father was James Light who was a hawker before he died prior to the wedding in 1901.

I still have Travelling family in London. I am going to try and get in touch with them if i can.

No other family with her........ haven't found a marriage to tie in with her yet.

I wonder if Mary was a 2nd wife..... there seems to be a big age gap between Charlotte and the next child Mary on the 1901 census!!

in which case she wouldn't be on 1881 census aged 4

I've had a pleasure in helping to look for travelling families before, they are difficult to find in census as often they change their birth years and birthplaces.... seeing as yet we have no 1891 census for the family I wouldn't rule it out.... or the 1881 family maybe closely linked to Kennys Light family as similar names show up in his family.

Charlotte Light was born around 1883 in kent, which it states on the 1901 census. On her marriage cert it states that her father was James Light Deceased and was a hawker and her mother was Mary Light.
Taking this info into consideration means that the 1881 census is not my Charlotte.
