Certainly his father's service records are on FMP - 8 pages - refers to his having lost an arm at Inkerman. I thought he might have been in the Coldstream Guards with my ggrandfather but they weren't in at the same time.

Oddly, although his Boer War medal awards are on Ancestry, his service records aren't on FMP...though it looks like those of other members of his family might be. Weird....

ellieathome yes that will be him thank you, his dad was a coldstream guard until he lost his arm so there are strong millitary connections.

Lynski, that will be him, he was an office porter who I wished married this Harriet

Another odd thing, Harriet died CURDS in 1952 (?) but I've spoken to her grandson who is now in his 80's & he never met her!

Think it will be Kew Gardens for marriage record.I have searched for a Harriet Blake marriage ,with no luck

Kim Report 22 Aug 2011 11:26

Sorry, Claire, he isn't there.

I suspect that he and Harriet were never married....perhaps he had previously married someone else (I did find a couple of marriages of an Albert Edward Curds but not to Harriet Blake) and divorce was very difficult and expensive in those days. I note that their first son, registered as "Blake" was killed in 1918 as A E Curds.

Perhaps your contact who contacts not who is doing the Blake line, got his/her information from someone doing the Curds (such as a tree on Ancestry).

Sorry I can't solve it for you

Best wishes

Because Curds is such an unusual name I've been able to trace back Albert's family but Harriet can only be guess work. If I remember correctly, Albert Edward BLAKE was with Margaret Curds on the 1901 so I'm pretty certain I've given Albert Edward CURDS the correct parents

Thank you. I thought Lynski may have found something there but there was an Albert Edward CURD born Steyning 1868

Kim Report 22 Aug 2011 11:08

I've tried a search on all marriages for albert curds and variants (Curd, Card, Cardus etc) marrying a Blake but to no avail. I'm going to see if I can find his service record as he was in the Boer War and see if there is a clue there.

He appears on a couple of public trees on Ancestry but no marriage date/place is given.

Albert Edwards CURDS 1872 born Rettendon Essex
& Harriet BLAKE probably 1881 Ware Hertfordshire

First child Albert Edward BLAKE 1900 Hertfordshire ( don't have cert)

I could never find a marriage so I assumed they just lived together until I found a contact with Albert & Harriet's children in their tree.

If this contact was doing the Curds tree, she could have got Harriet's maiden name by the birth of the children after 1911 & her details from the 1911 census but she's not, she's doing the Blake tree.

All attempts of extracting the marriage details from this contact have failed.

Anyone fancy trying this one please?
