Yes, so it seems that the new Skeels was named after his little brother who had died. I have checked all these details and mapped it all out and it does seem a right for everything else I already have in place.

But it seems by the time Skeels was born little William Skeels had died.

Sorry, Keeley, that 1838 marriage did not take place in Whittlesey itself - it must have been one of the outlying villages. I checked the transcripts for both CofE churches in Whittlesey - St Andrew's and St Mary's. They could have been non-conformists, I suppose.

I am going to Cambs Archives for a few days in September, possibly Peterborough as well. If you have something specific I can look up for you, please let me know by 1st September and I'll see what I can do. I believe there is a marriage index for Cambridgeshire and possibly baptisms too. Not sure what's available in Peterborough...I left there 30 years ago, have hardly been back since and never had cause to use the archives.

Good find on the parent's marriage Barbara. Certainly seems to fit especially with the Grandfather surname mentioned in the earlier census that Helen has quoted. Also thanks Glitterbaby - that is the same potential marriage I found so I am going to order the certs just to check.
