Sarah Stead born Sandal or Newmillerdam - suburbs of Wakefield 1816-1818.
There is a Sarah baptised 23 March 1818, All Saints' Wakefield, daughter of Joseph (clothmaker) & Hannah Stead of Flanshaw

Or maybe Sarah baptised 6 October 1816, St Helen's Sandal Magna, daughter of Frances Stead, spinster of Woodmoor.

You really need the details from her marriage to John Norton, perhaps someone on here might be going to the record office and could look it up rather than go to the expense of buying a certificate.

Best wishes

Elizabeth Stead daughter of Sarah Stead single woman baptised 20 February 1838 All Saints, Cawthorne. Reputed father John Norton

If she should turn out to be the Ledsham lass, in 1841 they were in Gawk Street, Ledsham, Fairburn
John Stead 35 shoemaker
Jane Stead 25
Matthew Stead 8
Elizabeth Stead 5
William Stead 2

In 1851 she and 12 year old William were servants to the Vicar of Wakefield and at home in Fairburn were John and Jane and daughters Mary, 8 years and Sarah 5 years

In 1861 she was a servant to a Richard Smith, cotton manufacturer in Bacup Lancs.
At home in Fairburn were John, 59 (incorrect) Jane, 49, Ann, 13, Jane, 10 and Fanny, 4

John Stead married Jane Mawson 22 Oct 1832 All Saints, Ledsham
He was buried there, aged 59 on 13 April 1864

If this turns out to be the correst one, I can most likely fill in some further details.

What did she and William Jackson call their children? Is their a clue in naming children after their parents/siblings?

Susan, you haven't commented on the Elizabeth Jackson 1861. Can we assume this is the correct one? If so 1851 and 1841 will be her also.

Should point out that even if father deceased this might not be recorded. Fathers also get invented!

I found two Elizabeth Steads with a father named John. The nearest for age is

Elizabeth Stead born 16 December 1835 and baptised at All Saints, Wakefield on 13 January 1836. Daughter of John and Jane of Eastgate...but he was a bookkeeeper.

The other was born 17 Jan 1840 and baptised 14 March 1841 in St Margaret's, Horsforth. Parents John (a clothier) and Mary.
I don't know how many of the West Yorks Anglican parishes were included and she may have been a non conformist. Will have a gander at the census...

He might have died obviously - or she was illegitimate?
Either way I feel the above might be right.

Hello
The marriage took place in All Saints, Kellington 30 August 1864.
Both were described as of full age and both were living in Whitley. Neither could sign the register. William Jackson was a labourer, son of William Jackson, a sailor. She was the daughter of John Stead, a labourer. Witnessed by Thomas Jaques & Thomas Bamford. Will try for her baptism etc and repost.
