Just checked the actual image for the 1911. Emily (12) is the only Osborne child - is she Emily's from before the marriage maybe? The other children are all Davis.

Frederick and Emily in the 1901 have Emily Osborne (2) and Nellie Osborne (13). I think they will be Emily's relatives. Her maiden name was Osborne.

Also interesting is the people living with who I assume to be Wilsons father, Frederick. He was married twice, at one point in his 40s has a 13 year old sister and a 2 year old grandchild living with him, then later a whole lot of children listed who don't have his surname, but do have the surname of the sister and the grandchild. :-S

Yup, Alice was my great grandmother. I did wonder if it was a mistake with the age, given there were no other Davis's in the area. Ooh his army records would be interesting, don't have an Ancestry sub though.
I wonder where he was in 1911?

His army records are on Ancestry. His will leaves everything to Miss A Lavender, Church Farm Cottage, Hurstmonceaux.

He enlisted in 1914.

He gives his address as Church Farm, Hurstmonceaux.

Looking at the 1901 I wonder if the enumerator made an error in his age by just copying Violet's age?

Violet's birth is Dec Q 1888 and I think her middle name is Ansley.

do you have either his marriage cert or birth cert please?

Samantha

Samantha Report 16 Aug 2011 13:16

Now my great grandfather has me stumped! He doesn't show up under this name on the 1911 census, and the Wilson Davis that shows up on the 1901 census has the wrong birth year (1889). His birth was defiantly registered as Wilson John Thomas, I've found that, and the record of his marriage in 1919. By the time I hit the 1911 census, there are no Wilson Davis's with the right birth area at all (Uckfield/Sussex). I've also looked for John Davis and Thomas Davis in case he decided to use a middle name with no luck there either!
