Shirley .thank you for your suggestion. i do not think friends reunited would go back that far .
as he died two years after the war

Glitterbaby no he died of an injury received in the war
i managed to get a copy of his obituary and it stated he was headmaster of borough school Southwark before he enlisted to fight in WW1
have been in touch with the council for Southwark but they know of no school named that (sorry for mistake in spelling )
it may not be there now i am talking 1918 .or it may be known by another name .as i said the man i spoke to said in those days the school was usually called after the road it was in

Have you found your great uncle on the 1911 census ?

hi long shoot ..does anybody know of a school in Southwalk called or was called Borough school.... my great uncle was headmaster prior to WW1
cannot find it in any records ...family history in southwalk say the school is usually named after the road it was in at this time
can anybody tell me the name of the school if it still exsists now
