Hi Catherine

Thats really helpful. I think you are right about David's age being incorrect (has anyone else found census ages to be about 5 years out?). I was also considering that David might not be his first name, but perhaps his second name, in which case I am completely at a dead end.
The traditional Scottish naming convention works for Henry Webster and Katherine Hardie with regards to David's children.
The fact that Cathrine Hardie is also living in Boyds avenue at the time of the 1841 census is the most concrete 'proof' of the link.
As for the Janet living with her, if this was her daugher, she would be 34, not 20? (I wonder if she could be a grandchild perhaps?)
All very intriguing, I will do some more digging.

The 1841 census entry you are referring to lists the address as Boyds Avenue.

Please see this entry in 1841 also at Boyd's Avenue -

Name: Catherin Hardie
Age: 64
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1777
Gender: Female
Where born: Stirlingshire, Scotland

Civil parish: Falkirk
County: Stirlingshire
Address: Boyds Avenue
Parish Number: 479
Household Members:
Name Age
Catherin Hardie 64
Janet Webster 20
Robert Moodie 6
Ann Potter 7

Catherine has given her maiden name but is with her daughter Janet.

In the 1841 census ages could be recorded plus or minus 5 years. I have no absolute knowledge regarding this, but I have seen it stated on postings many times. Perhaps someone else will concur.

The info re children of David and Janet (McKay) is as follows:
first born girl - Elizabeth - Janets (maternal grandmother)
Second born girl - Catherine - (this should be paternal grandmother mother if we're followng convention)
Third born girl - Janet (from her mother Janet)
Fourth born boy - David (the one I'm researching - his grandfathers name if still following convention)
Fifth borhn boy - Henry (his fathers name following convention)
This would all make sense for grandparents to be Henry Webster & Kathrine Hardie.
Could the David I have in the census be wrong, because he is definately recorded as being 35 in 1841 and there is no record of that birth anywhere.

Find his grave plot throught the Town Council Cemetery Dept. Then find who is buried with him.May be lucky.Poor Relief record perhaps may also help.

The connection above - Henry and Catherine. Then David and Janet have a son Henry.

Birth 1800 for David and Henry 1832.

This seems like the most likely connect. Henry not the most common name in Scotland.

I'm still digging around without much luck. If only the earlier records contained more info! If anyone has any bright ideas how to solve this one I'll be very impressed!

Hi Everyone, thanks for the help so far.
Thanks for the info re John McKay and Elizabeth Jones, this is the parents of Janet that I am missing too.
As for David:
Yes, I've looked on the marriage banns of Scotlandspeople.
The Henry Wester mentioned above is the son of the David I am researchng.
From my records, David and Janet have a son called David, who appears to be their first born, however there may have been an infant before him that did not survive.
I don't think I am out with Davids birth date by much, he was 35 at the 1841 census which would suggest he was born c. 1806/1807.
It is a bit of a odd one this.

I'm trying to find the parents of David Webster born in Stirlingshire, Scotland around 1806. He married Janet McKay/MacKay on 13 June 1830. In the 1841 census he is 35 years old and listed with Janet (25) and a daughter, Elizabeth (4), living in Falkirk (the Paris of Falkirk), Stirlingshire.
Part of the census paper asks 'if born in this county...' which indicates David and his wife Janet were both born in the County, which would be Stirlingshire.
David had died by the time of the 1851 census, (I think in 1847), but Janet is listed with her children and her mother - Elizabeth MacKay.
I cant find any information of David's birth anywhere! Can you help?
I want to know who his parents were and if he had any siblings.
Any help with this would be brilliant!
