Find Ancestors

Trying to find the Murray family. I can find the birth, marriage, and death records for my Murray family, but not find them listed in the census until some of them show up in 1901. James Murray was born around 1835, in Renfrewshire, Scotland. In 1855 he married Ann who was born in Ireland in 1855. I know they had the following children and there may have been others. James (1862), John (1863-1899), Alexander (1865-1902), Catherine Ann (1865-1866), Catherine (1867-1895), and Jeannie (1869-1870). All the children were born in Port Glasgow. The father was listed as a fisherman, and i know I have seen a few census that show him on a ship. Only two of the children marry and I don't think that either of them had children that survived infancy. I would like to find any census from 1861-1901, and would appreciate any help.

Have just got back from vacation. Thanks so much for all the information. Had never heard of the son Henry. I will check Scotland's People but don't think it will be my Ann's son. I also had never seen the 1861 census so I really appreciate Thanks again.

Thanks so much for this article. I had found her death record and knew that was how she had died. I had searched for articles, but had not any luck. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it. This family had gotten under my skin. The girls died young, except for Catherine, who died in her 20's of 'hysterical madness'. Two of the boys married and died soon after, only one of them had children, and the children died as infants. The only one I never found information on was the oldest, James Murray born March, 1862, in Port Glasgow. I think he may have died young, but don't know for sure. Thanks again. Take care,
