	thank you for your help lynne, everything ties in now. john s cope b 1863/5, spouse eliza smedley b 1865, eliza parents-joel smedley mary ann hallam, after the death of joel, mary ann remarried to george gill. this family is now sorted thanks to all of you. pam. :D :-)

	i posted the 1891 census on here on 10 may, don't know what happened to it !! izybird and sylvia, you have the correct family thank you. 1891 census shows samuel cope b1863 as a boarder with his grandaughter bertha, at halls rd stapleton, derbyshire, head of household george gill. i now know that i have the correct spouse for john samuel cope, thank you all for the information pam.
