Great grandparents on census record

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Julie Report 25 Apr 2011 10:47

I am wondering why I can't find great grandparents listed in any census, yet I know their names are John Woodcock and Ann Woodcock (formely) Dean. They had at least one child Catherine Ellen Woodcock 15/1/1910, 13 Court 10 Cecil St, Birmingham. I have found marriage records for 1892 July-Aug-Sept, only John is listed as Johnathon. I have no middle names for either John or Ann. Does anyone have any suggestions or any reasons for why they are not on any census records, particulary 1911, when this is only one year after their daughter Catherine was born?

Thank for any imput.

Julie

Thank you everyone, the last entry, is the one the one that seems most likely. My great grandmothers name was Ann Dean and became a Woodcock, by marrying John Woodcock. Assuming that this entry of marriage in 1892 Vol 6D Pg 95 is the correct one, why can't I find any Census record for Ann and Johnathon Woodcock?

Thanks Julie

No I don't know where either of them where born. The last address I have for them is on their daughters birth cert and it showed 13 Court 10 Cecil Street, Birmingham. regards Julie

I think you will have to buy the marriage Certificate of Jonathan Woodcock and Ann Dean. This will then give you the Father's names of Jonathan & Ann.

Jonathan Woodcock appears 1881 as b 1871 Birmingham son of Richard Woodcock b 1834 Tamworth and his wife Jane b 1837 Wales

But by 1891 only their daughter Florence is with them -all other children missing including Jonathan.Richard is a Wagon driver in 1881 and a railway porter in 1891

Possible for Ann
Ann Dean appears 1881 as born 1872 Birmingham daughter of Walter T Dean and his wife Louise

I wonder if Jonathan joined up for the army and was abroad 1891 -what is his occupation on the marriage cert?

Julie

Can you please tell me what MMS Dean means?

I had some evidence that Catherine Ellen Woodcock had a brother Albert Woodcock who I believe may of been born prior to 1910. How can I be sure that the children Lilian R Woodcock and Amy M Woodcock are sisters to Catherine Ellen Woodock B1910?

I appreciate all your assistance.

MMS means Mothers maiden surname
The only way you can be sure they are siblings of Catherine Ellen would be to buy their birth certificates from the GRO -you can do this online quoting the ref given for £9.25 each

jax Report 25 Apr 2011 19:46

Or buy the death certs as the parents should be on them too
