I am finding it hard to find out about Alice Walmsley born Preston Lancs about 1844. Her daughter Mary Alice Walmsley born 1872 married Frederick Thomas from Liverpool my great grandfather.
I am not sure if Alice's surname Walmsley was her birth name or married name.
I would appreciate if anyone can help me.

If you buy Mary's B/C you'll see if Walmsley was her Mum's maiden name or married name

Thank you all for your help and advice on my search.
Today I managed to get Mary Alice Walmsley's birth and marriage certificates. On the birth certificate it gives Alice Walmsley as the mother and blank for the father (address Queen St.)
On the marriage certificate to Frederick Thomas (address Oak St) it states the father for Mary Alice Walmsley is Richard Walmsley.

I am more confused than ever now! How can I match the relatives now?

Hello Stephen, most likely Richard Walmsley was invented for the marriage certificate to "save face".

That would explain it a little for me. I will look for Alice's parents now with the name Walmsley and I will forget the made up father. I never thought family tree work would be so hard and time consuming?
