Very odd! I've just spoken to my mother and Ambrose's siblings Margaret A, Richard, Robert, William, Jane, Elizabeth and Isabella all ring bells to her. However, on the 1911 census there is also a Thomas and Mary, which I need to check out. My mum doesn't recall anyone called Albert, but then that doesn't mean anything - she only knew that side of the family from the early '60s. Will investigate further! |

Just occured to me that Annie must have only been about 16 when they married in 1911. |

Cherilyn, that's most interesting information! It would make sense, him being a caterer, as my mother said he'd ended up opening up a small hotel in Australia and when he used to visit family in Carlisle he would brag about his dishes! |

This must be him, but I think he's fudged his age to get in to the naval reserve in 1940 (as a cook - he was a caterer by trade): |

Oh wow, this definitely sounds like the Ambrose I've been after! My mum actually thought he died out in Australia so that would fit the family story! |
