Im new at this and would be greatful for any help I have been trying to find birth record of my dad Ronald Howard Jones on wedding certificate married 29/3/47 age 25 District St Pancras London his dad was William Ernest Jones I have no information on his mother although I would love to find out more on her I am almost sure he was born in Worcester

Theres a few to choose from. Do you know your dads mothers maiden name?

No obvious Worcester birth.

I do not know mothers maiden name and no way of finding out
He had no sibling unless his mum had more children but no one seemed to have known who she was. I do not know if he is dead or not I have not had any contact since 1952 so he could be.

On the marriage certificate were either of the 2 witnesses a Jones?

There is a rather long winded way that you may be able to find something out. If your fathers age was recorded accurately on his marriage certificate and he was born in England or Wales and his birth was registered as Ronald H Jones then his must be one of the births shown below:

What you could do using the free site www.freebmd.org.uk is to try to find the marriage of a William E Jones to a lady with the maiden name shown on the birth registrations. E.G. Harries, Price, Kirby or Teale.

There are potential pitfalls however as WW1 caused some strange occurrences such as widows of the fallen remarrying (Under their previously married name, not their maiden name) and larger than usual gaps between the birth of siblings ect.

Thank you to every one who gave me help yesterday, I have tried all the options given to me, and have failed miserably, what I do not understand is trying to find birth records with only a full name and year of birth, it seems to me because I do not have place of birth and the mothers name its impossible to be sure if listed is the correct person, even if I purchase the birth certificate then how can I be sure I have the right person. Or do I have my silly head on.

Maureen, you are right in that it's not possible to know which one is your father. If you get the right birth cert his father's name will match, but you can only find this out once the cert has been purchased. This could get very expensive. Not sure what to suggest really. The only other thing - a long shot - is to check electoral register for the address he gave on marriage cert on the off-chance other family members were living there.

Just checking - do you know his birthday? Not the year, just day and month.

Thank you Brummiejan , will give that a try, but when I told an old aunt that address she said he never lived there, so not sure why he used that address, but will give it a try.
