Wouldn't be her then, her name would have been Mrs Head

Thanks both - I guess this could be either Margaret Head (i.e. Margaret Maria Braithwaite) or it could be Margaret Tyrer? Any way of checking this out?

Can anyone help me make sense of this? My relative William Head (born c.1833 in Wigton, Cumberland) is listed in the 1871 census in Preston - a widower age 38 with his 7 children (ages 14-1). William Head married Margaret Maria Braithwaite in Preston in 1856/Dec. A Margaret Braithwaite died in Preston in 1871/Mar. So far so good, although I can't find them in the 1861 census.

LancashireBMD lists details of the births of all 7 children in Preston, but with 2 different "mothers maiden name". The first 3 children are listed with maiden name BRAITHWAITE. The last 4 children are listed with maiden name TYRER.

Details:
John b:1857; Elizabeth Jane b:1859; Mary Ann b:1861 (all Braithwaite).
William Edward b:1864; Thomas b:1866; Margaret Alice b:1869; and Arthur b:1870 (all Tyrer).

I can't find any marriage reference to Tyrer, although without a first name there's not much to go on. Is there any way I can further this without formally applying for the birth certificates of the children? I only have membership with GR.

Any advice would be appreciated!
