Thanks for your reply Grace, but Jane died, there is no doubt about it. Jane Corbett was buried in 1845 in the churchyard of St. Peters, Ashton Under Lyne in the same grave as her husband.
I have the extracts from the burial registers of St Peters Church.... somewhere in my notes. :-)

Just wondering whether a death had to be registered by law back then?

Lin.

Lin has already indicated that Jane died 1845
It may be that death was not registered -it did not become compulsory to register intil 1875ish

Hi,

I am having difficulty in finding the death entry for JANE CORBETT in the Indexes. Can anyone help please?

Jane was born c.1816, the daughter of William & Margaret Leech, of Hillgate, Stockport, Cheshire. Jane was baptised at St. Mary's Church, Stockport, 2nd August 1816.

Jane married THOMAS HENRY CORBETT on 22nd November, 1835 at Manchester Cathedral.

The couple appear on the 1841 census of Ashton Under Lyne living with their two daughters, Mary Ann and Alice, along with other Corbett family members.
HO107; Piece 532; Book: 8; Civil Parish: Ashton Under Lyne; County: Lancashire; Enumeration District: 11; Folio: 26; Page: 46; Line: 17.

Janes husband, THOMAS HENRY CORBETT died 26th November 1844 aged 29, cause of death, Asthma. It appears that at the time of her husbands death Jane was pregnant. She gave birth to a son, THOMAS HENRY CORBETT on 6th July 1845 at Shaw Hole, Newton, in the registration district of Ashton and Oldham, sub district, Newton and Godley.
The childs birth certificate states that his father is THOMAS HENRY CORBETT deceased, mother JANE CORBETT deceased. Sadly, the chlid, THOMAS H CORBETT also died 17th October, 1845.

I would like to order Janes death certificate as I need to know who registered her death/who was living with her at Shaw Hole, Newton, but I haven't had any success in finding Jane Corbett's death listed in the indexes.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Lin.
