Hi Thanks for so much help. Birth certificate says mother was barmaid of 8 Welford Terrace, Fulham and her address at time of birth 103 St Dunstans Road which I believe may be a maternity home or something to do with the hospital.

Thanks again many leads to follow.

Just wondering if Beryl has the birth cert?? Maybe one of the 1911 addresses is on it.

Probably a complete red herring, but if you look at Beryl's surname, a connection to Boes does not look impossible.

Ah .... people ...

The child was born in Fulham, mother Kate Isabel Webb, no indication of any other surname so far as we know.

Why is

- a single woman who was born in Fulham and in Fulham at least in 1901, and was about 20 at the time of the birth, and whose own name was Kate Isabel Webb

not a better first choice than

- a widowed woman in Islington in 1911 who was about 35 at the time of the birth, had nothing to do with Fulham, and whose own name wasn't Webb

??

I suspect she unfortunately became pregnant while employed as a domestic (like my gr-grm a generation earlier) and returned home to have her child.

Kate Boes Webb is a complete red herring I think -- looking for a likely birth always seems to me to be the best first step ... I didn't want to go off doing what Beryl can and might want to do herself, but I did want to get on the right track.

How come I can't find a marriage for that Kate? ;)
