Am I right in thinking that it is possible to do a census search on the 1881 by address on FMP?

I am trying to find WILLIAM ISAAC HILLYARD b 17th Jan 1881 at 20 Howie Street Battersea on the 1881.

His parents were JANE and WILLIAM ISAAC.

I can find the family on all other census except the 1881. I have a copy of William b 1881 cert.

Could a kind person have a little look for me please?

Thanking you

Thank you Tempest,

How strange...that is them but the surname is listed as
Elliott...must have been an error by the numerator.

Many thanks for such a quick reply

Cannot do without you kind people helping us!

Much appreciated.............

Glitter Baby that is def them. I have a copy of William b 1881 ..his daughters marriage cert and the weird thing is that the surname Elliott is crossed through and Hillyard added.

I have searched for Elliottt on the 1881...but I see that William is spelt with only one L...so my search did not reveal anything.

I will have to have a big think about this one .................

Thanks everyone

You're very welcome

ps on the original, little William "Elliott" is 3 months old, it definately says Elliott, so seems like an error made by the enumerator

or someone was telling them fibs...my Great Grandparents used a fictitious surname on the 1911 census, I only found them through using birth cert info too!

did William senior die and could Jane have remarried a Mr Hillyard??

or maybe William senior's mother had??

Elisa

Elisa Report 24 Feb 2011 19:00

Something def dodgy!

But you have helped me as it was driving me mad!........as my kids tell me I am just a 'geek' when it comes to family research....here's to all the geeks!

Thanks again...............

Elisa Report 24 Feb 2011 19:07

William senior didnt die until 1914 and Jane died in 1931.

William seniors parents were ISAAC HILLYARD b Chalgrave Beds and Mary Kerry born Norfolk..I cannot find their marriage?
Isaac died in 1876 and Mary died in 1911.....but I have found her on the census with her children as a widow...no sign of a new man.

It is a real mystery.............

proud geeks together!

I'm sure you have this but

1891 census Address: 22, Little Europa Place, Battersea

Name Relation Condition Sex Age Birth Year Occupation Disability Where Born

HILLYARD, Isaac Head Married M 36 1855 Carman Chelsea London
HILLYARD, Jane Wife Married F 34 1857 Chelsea London
HILLYARD, Margaret Daughter F 12 1879 Scholar Chelsea London
HILLYARD, William Son M 10 1881 Scholar Battersea London
HILLYARD, Esther Daughter F 8 1883 Scholar Battersea London
HILLYARD, George Son M 6 1885 Scholar Battersea London
HILLYARD, Edward Son M 4 1887 Battersea London
HILLYARD, Robert Son M 2 1889 Battersea London

could Margaret and Ann be the same person?

Elisa

Elisa Report 24 Feb 2011 19:14

Yes.....William Isaac now calls himself Isaac!!.......I didnt think they were dodgy but..............
I looked up Little Europa Place and it was not a nice place to live in.

I noticed on the 1881 that 13 people lived in one house!......terrible!

Elisa

Elisa Report 24 Feb 2011 19:18

I did notice that on William b 1881 birth cert Jane only entered her X instead of a signature so my only conclusion is that if they could not read or write they did not realise the mistake?.......but them someone did on a marriage cert of William b 1881 daughter!................

Elisa

Elisa Report 24 Feb 2011 19:20

Margaret and Ann are def the same person...she is Margaret Ann..............

I think that they may not have actually married...............it says 30 yrs of marriage on the 1911 but they had a daughter Jane b 1877.....died 1880...of course they may have married later...and under what name.......I cannot find them under Hillyard or Elliott?.....who knows...why did ur ancestors make tracing them so difficult!.......I will keep looking though....
