sorry, had to disappear for a while. thomas has no definite second name, I just found a Thomas Henry Reynolds while searching, it was the closest one I could find as didn't come across one for Dartford, so basically clutching at straws.
Thomas declared 27 at time of marriage 17/7/1909.

thomas marriage cert......he and his 'father' george were both labourers. marriage was 17/7/1909, st martins parish church. bothe parties were living in chelsfield, no full address. marriage witnessed by Thomas Golding & Eliza Haydon.
yes, Thomas' wife's name was misspelt as Julett, so taht is the wedding cert I have.
the 1911 census for 1 Nile Cotts makes sense as there were two older girls before my grandad in 1923 (be a long time before he shows up on a census!)
but the 1891 census looks good for Thomas' parents as he had a sister called Elvy, which is what he went on to name one of his own daughters (seemingly).
So if Thomas' parents are George & Mary, is my original index for the wrong birth cert? Back to not being able to find him again lol

Yes, Clair, she is shown as Head, Widower. For some reason the older children are just shown with initials. I think Thomas Read is shown as a visitor but will look again - he is shown as a lodger.

This is the only Susan Reynolds living in Surrey coming up in 1881. If Thomas was illegitimate, he would probably have been born in the workhouse. I have checked for Susan just using initials but the only ones coming up are probably too old and in Insane Asylums.

Does Thomas give his father's occupation on his marriage cert? When and where did he marry and have you found him on any census?

lol doesn't look like i'm going to get much further back with no father!!
sorry potty if I'm being dim, but is Susan the head of that household in the 1891 census? seems to be a lot of young people there...can't work out who they all are!! Is she with Thomas Read but not married. or am I missing something? (sorry for silly questions!)

There is no father's name on that christening record meaning that Thomas is the illegitimate son of Susan. I suspect the father's name was made up for the marriage record.

Clair, from the baptism that safc found, it looks as if that Thomas was illegitimate.

wow, thnx safc....am hoping as my grandad was george henry that the george came from thomas' father and the henry from his own middle name...that would make sense. Susan is a start...have never got near a mother's name, thank you.
hi flick...nothing...the other thread followed my grandad's mum's line bk. she married thomas, who's father was george, & that's still where I'm at. you all did brilliantly on her line tho x

thomas married Elizabeth Ann Tullett, so I know his father's name was George, but as for his mother or going back any further, I'm having no luck.

Hi All,
I was incredibly lucky with the volunteers that were kind enough to help me yesterday & I was wondering if I could just push my luck a little further & ask if anyone would be kind enough to look up the above cert for me. the volunteers were wonderful taking my great grandmother's line back two more generations, but my great grandad's line is still a mystery. I can't match his birthplace or date for definite with any free records or trees on here, so I'm hoping this one, being the closest, is the one! Many thanks in advance for your help.
