Thank you all for your help and information. I can confirm that the Caroline some of you have found is the one on my certificate. But I still don't know if it is the correct Ada. Thanks again |

Coleman Street in 1881 was a rabbit warren of Courts each containing several houses some of them "Back" houses. Back houses were very common in Birmingham right up until the 1950's. Basically a back house is a single dwelling which is divided into two with one set of occupants living in the front portion whilst another occupies the rear. |

The fact that a father is named on a marriage certificate is no guarantee that the facts stated are accurate. Many an illegitimate child "Invented" a father on their marriage to avoid embarrassment. |
