Hi Ozi,

Thanks for replying. I have had a look at 1881, 71 & 61 but there are a few Thomas Whitings. His occupation was a Labourer. There was a Thomas with a William son in the 1881 census but not sure if correct
.

If you can help me i would be very grateful.

Thanks for getting back, Josie. How did you go with finding him?

Do you know the father's occupation, or didn't they bother as he was deceased?

Josie, we assumed you had the 1891-1911 censuses but WE hadn't seen them. Every little bit of information helps in this game.

Have you got g-grandfather's marriage cert to Emma Arnold?

There is this familyhistory website which might be worth signing up to. I couldn't find a birth for him so maybe Ozi is correct about not being born in the county. I signed on to this very easily and perhaps they could help you.
The marriage certificate is definitely needed.

Sorry Ozi, I should have said the 1871 found by Lindsey* and this should rule him out.

Except, alviegal, this is William R in 1891, and I'm pretty sure William Whaling/Whiting is the one we're looking for.

William R Whiting abt 1868 Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England Boarder Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Any chance of the 1901 family on 1911?

Ozibird Report 13 Feb 2011 20:43

If you haven't done so already, you need to get their marriage cert.

Marriages Mar 1891
Arnold Emma Aston 6d 301
Whiting William Aston 6d 301

This will give his father's name and occupation.

It looks like he thinks he was born in Coleford but he may have moved there as a small child.
