I'm looking for a William Cox b c 1788 Nottinghamshire.
He married a Sarah

They had 6 sons between 1810 and 1821 2 born in Halam and 4 in Southwell. I am guessing his aprox birth from this.

I am descended from Charles b 1818

maybe the 1841 census might give me a clue

Thanks
Mary

I'm fairly sure his wife was Sarah but he may have remarried after 1821 birth of james but the names are wrong.

Could you look for Charles Cox b 1818 in the 1841 census for me?

Could this be his wife Sarah? Their sons still seem to be in the area in 1841. James was in the same village working as an apprentice chairmaker

Yes that's him in York He was a gardener working for the Archbishop of York at his palace in Bishopthorpe

Do you think the Sarah I found is Southwell in 1841 could be William's widow?

mec

mec Report 13 Feb 2011 17:24

Yes it could be but I can't find a death on family search.
If that is her he would have died between 1821 and 1841

K

K Report 13 Feb 2011 17:28

There are few deaths on Family Search. I will have a look at the National Burial Index

mec

mec Report 13 Feb 2011 18:08

I've found a death March 1839 Southwell dist.

K

K Report 13 Feb 2011 18:14

I can't see a matching death on the NBI but I did find these possible on FreeBMD (Snap!)

Deaths Jun 1839 (>99%)
COX William Southwell 15 420

Deaths Mar 1843 (>99%)
COX Sarah Southwell 16 462

mec

mec Report 13 Feb 2011 18:17

What do the 15 and 16 numbers refer to?
I looked at the page for the 1839 Southwell on and all the deaths on that page had 15 next to the names?

K

K Report 13 Feb 2011 18:25

Sorry the reference number given are the Volume and Page number of the Record to enable you to order the right record. So the Volume number for most in 1839 in Southwell was 15

Edit - You can order certs online from the General Record Office using these reference numbers

mec

mec Report 13 Feb 2011 18:36

Thanks for that and all other info.
its beginning to look like I've reached a dead end with the Coxes!!

K

K Report 13 Feb 2011 18:43

If the correct death certs they would at least confirm their ages. You could then ask if someone in going to the Notts Record Office to check births in the area. I wonder if it would be worth asking for a copy of the marriage from the Record Office just in case it has further information

Good Luck Kay
