I am looking for the marriage of Emma Sharp, baptised 1879 Lincolnshire. I know she was married to a Mr Crummitt and they had one daughter Mary, born c1913, who married Fred Tooby. Emma lived at Westbourne Grove, Salterhebble Halifax for most of her married life I believe. I cannot find a marriage for Emma to Mr Crummitt, nor the birth of Mary nor her marriage. Please can I ask if anyone can help? |

either do a 1911 Census search or ask for someone to do a search on the 1911 for you |

Thank you Sylvia, yes that is her! I had forgotten Mary was her middle name, but I couldn't find any Crummetts on the census returns for 1901 or 1911. Maybe it is time I gave up for tonight!!!! |

Sylvia, I think Mary and Fred would get married in Halifax as they lived in that area all their lives as far as I know. I think Fred had been married before. |

Oh I thought it was Fred who had been married before! That has been a well kept family secret if it was Mary! The first skeleton I have found!!!! |

Sorry, I meant to say in that message above that we had been under the impression that Fred had been divorced, so maybe it was Mary or perhaps both of them. |

I would hazard a guess that Mary's first husband might well have been killed ... she did marry him in 1944, during WW2 |

If you buy her marriage certificate it will tell you whether she was widow or divorced when she married Fred. |

Many thanks Sylvia, you are so helpful. Now can I ask - how would I find out if Mary or Fred had been divorced? I have looked for a death for Walter Wilson but can't find one and I am sure there was some family scandal about a divorce (well, in those days it was a scandal). |
