Many years ago, I lived up Shirland and was familiar with many of the families from Stonebroom. In fact the Whetton Family are still going strong today.

Hi Terry,

Just a quickie as have a busy weekend - I don't have any connections with Burton- on-Trent. I will dig out the Stonebroom connections tho and send you a pm as soon as I have a minute - probably Monday.

Regards, Sue

I used the free Mormon LDS set - then used their advanced search facility and just put in "Stonebroom" in location and got the censuses for the village for years on end - had never tried that way before but it does give a picture of all the families who were born in that village - lt me know if you want details of the search site

Hello Sue

are you any relation to the Holland's of Burton-on-Trent? my grand-daughter is a Holland (Kara Faye)

answer to your question,, i will be interested, what i'm doing is trying to get together as much as i can about our village "Stonebroom". Its really a newish village as you can gather with this thread, it was first mention around 1841, would like to take it through to present day, bit of a task, LOL
been doing my family tree aswell, but stuck with that now around 1615 but keep going back to try now and again. any help would be a big help

Thanks Terry

Hi Terry,

I don't know if you are looking for any particular family, but I have quite a few Holland ancestors born and living in Shirland, Clay Cross and Stonebroom in the last half of the 1800's. Let me know if these are of any interest to you.

Regards Sue

Ann of Green Gables, your amazing thankyou very much for the time and effort which you must have put in, Astra again thank you too, you've both been a great help.

Slartibartfast thanks for the point in the right direction, i dont have access to Ancestry, i know its available at local libraries (no Charge) but i dont get much chance to go to our library, which is a shame really,

thanks again to all
Terry

I used the 1841 address search on Find my Past Ann. Makes life so much easier. Once Terence had given us the name Whetton and I had located that family in the census then the rest were easy to find.

Too right Astra - much easier than the way I did it!!! may I ask how you did it that way please

Here we go. It's much easier with a name to work on. These families are listed as living in Stonehouse Shirland in 1841. The image is very faint and I think it says Stonebroom and not Stonehouse which is why it didn't show in an address search.

well hope I haven't overloaded you - those are just some of the different surnames in Stonebroom in the 1800's - could be more but I got a bit cross eyed after a while - there are 41879087 people on th census in Stonebroom

I have never thought of doing a search before with just the name of the village, didn't know it could be done, so I have sure leanred something this evening - or should I say morning!!!!
