Yes, me too Chris, but the transcription of the census on Ancestry.co says Alice Maud's Father is William Morley. I wonder if someone just made that assumption then, and is not based on hard evidence. I just got drawn in.

I have changed my tree backwards and forwards so many times. On the 1851 census it says Francis (with an I) is male aged 6 so that would have to be wrong too. If Frances is female I think you are correct. It sounds likely and family stories say Alice Maud's mother died young and father was a merchant seaman who died at sea. That would fit.

I saw that Julia, but took Alice to be Grandaughter of Sarah, but with Frances unmarried daughter as Mother!, but can't see Frances anywhere after 1851...
Best bet is to send for Marriage Cert...

William is certainly Alice Maud's father. the 1881 census shows her father as William Morley!! Hooray. Still no news on mother Frances Morley. All a bit strange.

Wow!!!
Thank you again Chris for all your efforts. I live in Banbury so it is a bit of a journey but I plan to have a day out one day and indulge myself.

Wonder why they left it so long and then had them baptised?? Why didn't I think of looking for Robert as a first name for one of his children. Logical

Think next time I go to Cambridge RO I'll take a look Julia :-) (I'm not far from it)

The 1901 Marriage Cert. posted would be good for a start. I can't see details of it on Find My Past Cambs. Parish Records (could be a neighbouring Parish to Linton, they don't cover all Parishes on FMP) Robert and Sarah are there 1840.

Might be that you just never find the answer to Alice's Father...

I am so new to this, I don't understand how people go missing on the various records, other than mistakes in the writing or reading. I have seen Linton transcribed as Sinton and Alice transcribed as Allin, so am looking at possible mistakes of that nature. Thank you for all your help.

I just wondered what it might say (marriage certificate).
And why cannot I see Francis/Frances (or Daniel) Morley births in Linton?

Julia

Julia Report 30 Jan 2011 23:06

No, and I wonder if she ever knew who her father was. I was really trying to nail down a mother first, hence getting her birth certificate. I suppose the marriage cert will have her father's name on it if she knew who he was?

Have you got a marriage certificate for Alice Maud?

Does Alice Maud have a Father?

Julia

Julia Report 30 Jan 2011 22:30

Thank you very much everyone.
I am trying to work out how Sarah was Alice Maud's grandmother (census 1881) when Alice Maud's birth certificate says Frances Morley was her mother. I hoped the male Francis, (on 1851 census) son of Sarah was a mistake and was female, making her Alice Maud's mother. If you get what I mean!!! ??Thank you again

Hello, can anyone tell me anything about this person please? On the 1851 census he is listed as male aged 6 yrs but I hope that is wrong and is female. Is this sort of error possible? I cannot find his/her birth or any further record of him/her.
Mother is Sarah Morley b Shudy Camps Cambs, father Robert Morley b Linton Cambs. Thank you very much for anything you can tell me
