Aha, so Susan wasn't born in Essex. I've only just checked the 1861 for myself.

1861: Susan Daniels Richard, Rebecca abt 1855 Huntingdonshire, England Daughter St Nicholas, Nottinghamshire

Sorry for the delay.

No idea what regiment he was in before, if at all.

34th Foot were in Crimea (1854-55) and India (1857-58). It looks like he didn't go to India as all his daughters were supposedly born in Essex.

The two younger ones could have been born after his return from India.

Births Jun 1858
Daniels Rosina Dunmow 4a 326
Births Dec 1860
DANIELS Rebecca Dunmow 4a 317

I can't find a birth or marriage for Susan unless this is her?

Flick,
What a shame,i thought I'd have him in the bag!

No wonder I could never find them 1871 with that bad name transcript.
If Ozi is still here,do you know where his regiment was prior to 1854,before his marriage?

His place of birth will NOT be on the death cert

Your only hope of tracing his ancestry is the marriage cert, which will include his father's name - if known

In 1871 Rebecca is a Widow

Blue1 Report 28 Jan 2011 16:27

Hi every one,
found it at last
It does say Wid
and I think the death in Dunmow is him.

I shall buy that cert as it may prove his place of birth which I'm not convinced is Nottingham any way.

Yes, I think it is 'Wid" for marital status. It looks very much like the 'Widower' at the top of the page.

Richard is mentioned in 1877 on his daughter Susan's marriage cert and he is not down as deceased. His Occ is still a Sergeant LI (light infantry)

I'm stumped! and am hoping that someone with better access to records or more experiance searching than me would have a go please at finding him, dead or alive!

Any help or suggestions of how or where I could look for them would be much appreciated

many thanks
Blue

ps
There is a family story from my husbands Granddad who is no longer with us that one of his grandfathers deserted from the Army and that he was Irish. He didn't know his name though,so,I'm wondering if this chap is him.
