Julie....Found in the NI Antrim and Down possibly Ulster Scots originally....or could be from Mac Labhrain.(.M'Loran) very old and very rare Co Caven surname
Cant see any for Scotland but McLorinan could well be a derivation of a similiar surname....eg Loriman...(Perthshire)

Who/when did your grandfather marry?

The cert will tell you his declared age.......plus his father's details

That info should give you something to work on............

Do you have your own birth cert, that will give your parents names and you can the look for their marriage and work your way backwards. Thats how most of us started our tree searches
It will involve buying some certificates to keep on track with the right families

Julie Report 12 Jan 2011 16:45

Hi my name is Julia McLorinan and due to a huge loss in family members recently I dont know anything of my familys history or where we come from except my grandad William McLorinan served in the merchant navy. My surname is really uncommon and I would be extremely grateful for any info anybody could help me with, thanks.
