Yes this is my charles, mothers maiden name was bailey.

I've noticed it states charles was born in aston, the 1911 census says born in oldham.

but it actually says Oldham Hamstead in 1901

Hamstead I think is in the Birmingham area near Handsworth, though I have not identified the reg district yet. Maybe someone who knows the area can help

I have looked at the 1911 and it def says Charles born Oldham (which is of course in Lancashire)

Through the marriage of his father, Richard Thomas Jones,

I wonder if any of the younger ones actually knew where they were born?

If Charles lived his early life in Oldham he may think he was born there

the only Thomas Richard (jnr born 1880) who fits at all was born in reg district Aston

it is also possible that the earlier children's births were not registered as there was no penalty for not registering before 1874.

the only Richard T (jnr) births I can find in 1879/80 are West Derby or Wrexham

something a bit odd about the 1881 as both Elizabeth and Charles are 8yrs old , Charles is born Aston and Elizabeth is born Oldham

I suppose it is possible

if Charles was born April/May 1872 and Elizabeth January/Feb 1873 they would both be 8 yrs old when the census was taken

As they must have moved in between that is why I thought Charles might not have known where he was actually born

actually Ann you are right, I worked it out after I had posted. On the 1891 Charles is born Birmingham.
