Bill, you just haven't been clear enough for anyone to help, really.

I still don't quite understand whether you are in contact with your brother and sister.

And I don't understand what family you are looking for -- since you know your mum and dad are deceased, and your mum does not seem to have had any other children after you dad died.

You seemed to be looking for children of your dad's siblings -- and I explained how to request an electoral roll lookup for a child of sister Edna (after I gave you info about the child's birth and marriage, as I recall).

The way to find people is to look for them! If you give a clearer explanation of *who* you are looking for, it would help.

You said that the link I gave you for Tracey's thread, for an electoral roll lookup, didn't work. I tried as best I could to explain how to use the link I gave you to get to Tracey's thread and send her a private message, and what info to request.

I haven't heard any more. All in all, you haven't said much to acknowlege the help people have tried to offer.

JaneyCanuck Three Minutes Ago

You need to contact the Barnardo organization itself -- have you not done that?

http://www.barnardos.org.uk/

http://www.barnardos.org.uk/what_we_do/working_with_former_barnardos_children.htm

JaneyCanuck One Minute Ago

Also, you have a thread about your family already, in which I, for one, have done a fair bit to help.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/trying_to_find/cuthbert/thread/1254472

You should not start another thread about the same thing; it is against the rules to do that. You should delete this thread, as it will only lead to people doing pointless work that duplicates what has already been done. You should go back to your other thread to continue your questions.

Click on "My thread participation" on the left to find that thread any time.

Bill, it isn't Alexandra, it's Alexander; I put the details above. I've also told you in my private message now about how to get your mother's death certificate, which could tell you more. Your father's death certificate might also -- death certificates list cause of death -- if this is the correct record:

Name: Norman Cuthbert
Death Registration Month/Year: 1944
Age at death (estimated): 29
Registration district: Durham South Eastern
Inferred County: Durham
Volume: 10a
Page: 94

You use those details to order certificates.

I've found Edna's daughter on the current electoral list and I'm sending you directions for asking for a lookup for her contact details.

trying to find out about fathers family to find out where he is buried.I found out my mother was buried in stockton but not where exactly, but not my father it seems to be blanks all the time , and I never found out what kind of work he or my mother did.I feel as if I am missing part of my life.
I don't know anything about alexandra ? I don't know if my mother was ill and thats why we went into care, i'd like to find out I thought if I could find family I might be able to find these things out

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 7 Jan 2011 22:42

I will send possible marriage details for Edna's daughter by private message.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 7 Jan 2011 22:41

Okay, your mum Rosamund's second marriage:

Name: Rosamund Cuthbert
Spouse: Thomas H Alexander
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1947
Registration district: Leeds
Registration county (inferred): Yorkshire - West Riding
Volume Number: 2c
Page Number: 795

(She may have gone to Hampshire to be with family in 1945? - edit - you were born in 1945 -- possibly your father was in the military?)

Name: Rosamond Long
Spouse: Norman Cuthbert
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1939
Registration district: Durham South Eastern
Registration county (inferred): Durham
Volume Number: 10a
Page Number: 362

If she wasa born in 1920 in Stockton, this is the death you mention?

Name: Rosamund Alexander
Death Registration Month/Year: 1950
Age at death (estimated): 29
Registration district: Durham South Eastern
Inferred County: Durham
Volume: 1a
Page: 553

There are no Alexander-Long births in Hampshire, Yorkshire or Durham, although there are 6 such births 1947-1950 in other places.

Glad you replied here, Bill -- I was about to ask that you do that instead of sending private messages. ;)

Are you looking for your siblings? It still isn't clear what family you are looking for. I'll send you those birth records by private message, in case.

edit - Oops, I realize from your PM to me that you have their details. Please do explain what you are looking for more specifically.

my father died before I was born I have been trying for many years to fiind my family, when my father died mother rosamond seemed to remarry someone called alexandra ? I cannot seem to find where my father is buried.and me and my brother and sister were put into care with dr barnardo's at stockton on tees.I was only about 3 or 5 years old when this happened.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 7 Jan 2011 21:53

Yes, MC -- Edna and Norman are twins. ;) (The other two I mentioned were on different pages.)

- edit - I missed that William named both Ernest and Sarah -- it would be very unusual for twins to be registered on pages so far apart ... ?

This could be Edna's death if the informant got her birthdate slightly wrong, as did happen:

Name: Edna Dodds
Birth Date: 13 Dec 1914
Death Registration Month/Year: May 1999
Age at death (estimated): 84
Registration district: Stockton
Inferred County: Durham
Register number: A5
District and Subdistrict: 3501A
Entry number: 176

There was one child to the Dodds-Cuthbert marriage which you should be able to find at FreeBMD, William -- we won't post it here as she may still be living.

This could be Edna's husband's death:

Name: James Hill Dodds
Birth Date: 13 Feb 1914
Death Registration Month/Year: Dec 1993
Age at death (estimated): 79
Registration district: Darlington
Inferred County: Durham, Yorkshire
Register number: A47E
District and Subdistrict: 4361A
Entry number: 71

Sure would like an answer to the question of what you're searching for.

This coud be the other Cuthbert-Southall marriage:

Marriages Mar 1906
? Cuthbert John George Stockton 10a 76
LONGMIRE Eveline Stockton 10a 76
? Southall Ada Stockton 10a 76
Ward Thomas Henry Stockton 10a 76

Maybe you know Norman's parents' names.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 7 Jan 2011 21:50

Edna's marriage?

Name: Edna Cuthbert
Spouse: James H Dodds
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1936
Registration district: Stockton
Registration county (inferred): Durham
Volume Number: 10a
Page Number: 198

I have a hunch there may be twins ........

William does name both Ernest and Sarah as 1911.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 7 Jan 2011 21:49

Is this Norman's death? - if so, how sad, before your birth:

Name: Norman Cuthbert
Death Registration Month/Year: 1944
Age at death (estimated): 29
Registration district: Durham South Eastern
Inferred County: Durham
Volume: 10a
Page: 94

It helps to give as much info as possible. These are all Cuthbert-Southall births from 1911 on:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

(search for just surname Cuthbert, mother Southall) (some may have died in childhood)

Births Sep 1911
Cuthbert Ernest Southall Stockton 10a 181
CUTHBERT Sarah J Southall Stockton 10a 112

-- so there must have been two Cuthbert-Southall couples, as these two are mutually exclusive, and not all births will belong to yours

Births Dec 1913
CUTHBERT CLYDE SOUTHALL Stockton 10a 171

Births Mar 1914
CUTHBERT James Southall Stockton 10a 124

Births Sep 1915
> Cuthbert Edna Southall Stockton 10a 102
> Cuthbert Norman Southall Stockton 10a 134

Births Sep 1917
Cuthbert Richard Southall Stockton 10a 146

Births Jun 1925
Cuthbert Annie Southall Stockton 10a 179

The question is, if you're a child of Norman, what is it you are trying to trace about him? Ancestors? Or other descendants of him and Edna?
