If you posted something like that on the FB page it would be a complete waste of time unless a rellie was just passing that day. How many people are going to go through all the pages looking for something that may interest them? certainly not me

So...what is it GR want to be put on their FB wall?....

Looks like anything that makes them look good....kind of like an alter to GR.

Otherwise if the wall is just full of stories about how nice someones family member was......then its rather naff!...Unless that story has any interest to you as an individual...then who cares how nice someone else family is or was or are!.....I have my of life to live....its crap enough without the look at my lovely family stories!...
My family sucked.........and i said so on GR's facebook wall and got kicked off!.....
So it appears lovey lovey sicky sicky stories are ok..but not stories of real life...as we all dont have lovely families and happy ending... They need balance....but GR isn't prepared to show life in all its glory..good and bad...just their sweet sickly one.

So....without asking questions looking for info.."lookups"?..then the fb page is there just for GR annoucements and has no benefit for those really looking to research.
I shall not be pressing the "Like" button again for the GR fb page....its a wase of time..and isn't of any benefit to me.

I wasnt ever gonna use fb....BUT have been able to make contact with relatives i wouldnt of been able to do without it...Like my cousin in Oz who moved there before i was born....and my niece.....The 1st contact i have had with her in 21years!....And I found them on fb....so it does have some uses dispite its bad rep.

I would argue that the boards here are for lookups as this is the GR website.

At least here if anyone is looking for living people then the information can be given by pm rather than posting on an open forum like these boards and facebook.

They say the intention of the facebook page is for fans of the site to chat and interact with the GR team.

I agree we should have a similar board, or stickies thread were we can "speak" to GR and they can keep us informed.

And as you say Toots.......it should be here...not at fb......the fb page is not nesessary if your a member of this site....so it serves no real purpose.

I guess they want it full of folks saying " Cheee..isn't GR GREAT!!".."I LOVE GR"...etc.

It is to aid marketing but they have had a rough ride since November with the Help Clinic fiasco etc.....

Great.....so the free access users of GR facebook can chat with GR, while those of us whose subs keep them in jobs can't chat with them at all!

This seemed to come about because of so called "maintenance" rather than actually giving free access...
As such the site crashed and most it not all folks got to access NOTHING!....not even our trees!!.....

A lot of unhappy folks who had changed their Year New schedule's so as to be in for the "Free Access" 2hrs.

Oh Dear!........Not a good end or start to the year.

The FB page is a publicity tool for the GenesReunited website.

Lots of corporations use FB for that. It just isn't a big whup.

GR doesn't intend for its FB page to be an alternative to this site for the purpose of lookups and searches. That's its choice, and its prerogative.

Paul, your point about using FB to find relations is entirely unrelated. I do that all the time when helping in TTF threads -- google a name, find an FB page, refer the poster here to FB to contact their long-lost cousin's kid or whatever. Nothing to do with lookups or family history (or opinion about family) on the GR FB page.

I *DO* think that there should be a management-user interaction board at this site. I appreciate that it could be a wild and woolly place, but I think it would settle down before long if it was tended properly by management.

But 1st..GR needs to be able to take criticism...which it can't...Hence me being kicked from its FB page.

It's been said on here already, I don't think lookups should be allowed on their facebook page, why else have this site?

Personally, I think that it's about time for this site to have a little revamp (this is no criticism of them) to make this site more streamlined. There's not much difference between General and chat and there's not much difference between the genealogy boards. Just to prove a point & in no way a criticism of the original poster but by rights (in my eyes lol) this thread should be on general but I can see exactly the reason why she's posted it on here. General isn't really used for general genealogy chat, it never has been.

I think the home page should have a notice board on with the up to date issues on and there should be more interaction with GR on this site (as long as people don't take the opportunity to rant at them )

Hi Paul, so you're good enough to pay your sub on here but not good enough for their facebook page??? I love that!

Why are they wasting our money on the c**p I've just viewed on facebook, try investing it into sorting out the search facilities on this site then people might renew their subs rather than go elsewhere!

We could always try bombarding it with stupid messages and requests - see how long we last before ending up in the sin-bin with Paul.
