Can I just ask how you know his year of birth ?

If it's from the 1841 census then it won't be exact.

I would have thought your first purchase should be Ann's death to confirm whether or not he was still alive then. (It should say if Ann was a widow when she died)

patchem and kath, thanks for those two, either of which could be the one.

do you know if i order a death cert as i have not needed to before, does it give the partners name if they have already died?or is it just the name of the informant given.

if i ordered the two certs, i am just wondering how i will know which is the right one as the spelling changes quite frequently. i suppose it will give age at death or est and i do know the year he was born.

both the areas are quite close and the family came from both areas so thats why either could be a poss.

many thanks to all those who helped, really appreciated

That's what I was thinking MarieC.

I think that Ann's death cert is needed to see if she was a widow at the time or if John signed the cert.

The 1841 I posted has him as cotton weaver. The thing with 1841 is it doesn't give relationship - Anne could be a daughter, James could be her son.

Ages are as per original. Not saying it's the ones Florence is looking for. Posted it in case relative, or just to be eliminated.

He was a blacksmith in 1820

Was he really 25+ years older than his wife or is it mistranscribed ?

Young son too !

patchem

patchem Report 3 Jan 2011 23:00

Have you got Anne's death certificate to know whether he was still alive then?
Thanks

Mike * Report 3 Jan 2011 22:59

You have to take into account that on the 1841 census, ages of adults were rounded down to the nearest 5.
So he could have been 60 - 64

Have you found him on 1851 census ?

Just putting this here as a possible..........
