I have 9 children for Richard and Phoebe which I have got through census records

She's on a couple of trees on Ancestry saying that she was born 1803, Godmanchester, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth, and died 1863, St. Ives. There are 9 children listed.

Edit: The tree has Naomi born abt. 1835, St. Ives.

Hi Margaret,
Yes I have them. Strangely I don't have the birth of their daughter Naomi who was my ancestor!

Oh yes, I've seen worse name corruption than that. I would say that the name was Bester but that the birth records were hard to read. I believe they're the same 2 children, baptised Bastin or Baster and married as Bester.

BVRI has 2 children of Richard & Phoebe in Godmanchester, Sophia 1826 and George Joseph 1828. Do you have them?

Margaret,
That possible brother is very interesting but really adds to me confusion. Would it be normal for a name to be corrupted like this? I know that Bester was used as a second name for a couple of generations and the marriage record is for Bester

BVRI is British Vital Records Index, a set of cd's that I purchased years ago from Familysearch. They're no longer for sale, I believe the records are all online now but the cd's make it so much easier to do look-ups. They are extracted from parish records.

LadyKira,
Thanks, I have just had a look and found that one person looks up several parishes including Godmanchester so I have emailed her.

Thanks for your help.

It looks like a lookup site to me. you can eliminate the parishes one by one.

I just found it and was wondering about some of mine.

LadyKira,
Thanks, I had found the site you refer to but don't I need to know the parish?

The 1871 census image is very poor, but it looks like he is a widow - possible death for Phebe:

Deaths Mar 1863 (>99%)
James Phebe St. Ives 3b 193

Hi Susan,
This is certainly interesting. Is it possible is could be a transcription mistake? I know that Phoebe and Richard used Bester as a middle name for at least one of their children.

I know Phoebe Bester married Richard James in 1824 in Godmanchester Huntingdonshire. I have seen census records for them for 1841 to 1871. Richard died in 1879, not sure about Phoebe.

I believe that she was born around 1803 in Huntingdonshire, possibly Godmanchester.
