How can I find out if my family were involved in any groups or clubs in Preston Lancashire in the 1800's? Are there any websites where I can check this? |

I don't really know. I was just hoping to find something relating to my family. Perhaps any church groups, or to see if they had any hobbies or interests. Sorry to be a bit vague, but I'm struggling to find out any info on one member of my family and this was one idea that may throw up a few clues. Thanks |

It's William Rigby born 1804 Woodplumpton. Lancashire Ann has been trying to find info on him for me that was why I didn't post his name. So far we haven't been able to find much. But the search goes on! Thankyou. |

No sorry. He died in 1859. I really didn't want to post his name twice as this would confuse where we are at, so I apologise. I just thought that if I could try and locate any clubs that he might have been involved in it may give me some vital info to go further. It was just an idea! |

Would there be any schools listed in that area for that period. Sorry to be so confusing. |

I'm a bit confused here...So you are looking for someones hobbies and interests in the early part of the 19th centary?? So you have his death cert? as William Rigby seems a common name in that area |

Only the rich had time for hobbies in those days........everyone else was too busy trying just to exist. |

the only society I can think of (Woodplumpton even today is very small) is maybe the Young Farmers. Not sure when it was formed though, it still has a branch in the area today. There was education in the early 1800's |

Sorry not to be in touch for a while. Thank you for the help that you have given me. I think I'm clutching at straws here, getting desperate really to find something on him. Don't know where to turn next. Think we are at the end of the line! THANK YOU SO MUCH. |
